so im thinking that im one of a few that thinks sunlight makes a big difference to how my hair grows back. the reason im saying this is because ive been bald for so long, most of my adult life. it dosnt bother me anymore ive learnt to deal with it. but anytime ive stopped shaving my head and let a bit of sun in, it really helps! i dont know if its just me or does anyone else notice this. would be good to hear your thoughts?

I spent 6 months in Uganda in 2007. Full sun all day everyday! My hair grew in so much when I was there! It was the thickest its and healthiest its ever been in my life! I haven't been able to pin it to just one reason though. When I was there I was happy in my work and personal life. I was eating healthy - unprocessed and natural foods, I was also taking cold showers (I briefly thought this had something to do with the growth too!). I lost it again since being back here for the last 3 years, but I have always wondered what the trigger for new growth was. Now that I am shaved bald and its summer time, I am going to see what happens with the sunshine!
I also get some growth in the summer. My Mom noticed this when I was little. Not sure if it's the summer sun or if I'm just happier? But I am way happier in the summer months!
Hello!

Just curious if any of you who notice re-growth in the summer if you have tried taking Vitamin D supplements or if you have ever had your Vitamin D levels tested??
I have noticed that the more sun exposure I have, the more my hair grows, especially on my arms and legs...Rarely do I have any regrowth on my eyebrows or lashes, and only on my head after I get a sunburn. I had thought the same thing about vitamin D, so I experimentally tried taking some on my own. I didn't notice any difference at all. So, something else from the sun must be stimulating the growth.
Yes, I have noticed that I have a little hair regrowth in the summer. Never enough to make much of a difference and then it all falls out again. Maybe it is time to move to a warmer sunnier climate, even if my hair does not grow back then my head would not be cold in the winter.
UV light is regularly used in the dermatology clinic for treating psoriasis and alopecia areata, although it comes with it's own set of side effects. I new a women once who did UV light treatments and had hair regrowth but once she stopped all her hair fell out again. I talked to my dermatologist about UV treatments and they are very expensive since insurance will not cover it for alopecia and once treatment stops the hair will fall out again.
I've heard Vitamin D is a good thing. Not just for alopecia but all auto-immune disorders. Especially for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere where there is typically less sunlight. I take 2000 iu Vitamin daily.
Thanks for the reminder...Time for a pill....Can't hurt might help. Hope it's sunny tomorrow!!!

It has to do with the UV rays, they’re able to kill off the immune cells in the skin allowing your hair to grow as it naturally would. The best type of light is UVB rays and if you don’t live in a sunny area, you can have treatments done with a dermataologist to just sit under a UVB lamp.

Ley's all run to the suntan booth!
