Hi All,

Has anybody tried Sodium Butyrate as a cure for alopecia? I've just started taking this, along with supplements of dietry fibers. From the scientific papers I have read, it seems this could be very useful for alopecia. It is a short chain fatty acid normally produced in the body naturaly by bacteria. I've just had a microbiome test and my biome diversity is very low and not very good at producing butyric acid. So direct supplement might be beneficial.

I've read some studies where people with IBS and ulcerative colitis have gone in to complete remission after supplementing around 4g of sodium butyrate a day. It seems to regulate tregs - One paper suggested it increases CD4+CD25+FOXP3 which is decreased in alopecia.

I feel butyrate could be a good candidate for a cure. I've read another paper - where a fecal transplant has been used as a cure for alopecia. I believe this is due to an increase of short chain fatty acids produced by the new bacteria.

I will try and post some sources to the papers when I have a little more time.

If you have tried this please let me know your outcomes.

Thanks

Very interesting that you mention gut health. I have changed mine with diet and have seen a complete reversal of my AU. Fibre is great for feeding your gut microbiome.

How long did you have AU for before regrow this?

AA for 2 years and then went to AU for about 18 months.
