I'm 14 right now, and I started losing my hair when I was 12. Now I am bald. Should I use Rogaine? On the bottle, it says, "Continued use is necessary to increase and keep your hair regrowth or hair loss will begin again." Sooo is it worth it? Like did any of you try it and it grew back your hair? I'm scared that I would have to use it for like my whole life. Please halp me!!! Cuz I really wanna do track, but I can't with a wig on! Ughhh.

Unfortunately with an autoammune condition Rogaine is not going to really do the job. I think it helps when there are spots of Alopecia but not when you have lost all of your hair. My daughter who was 22 at the time used it and the condition progressed to her being bald. That being said she has really accepted her condition with grace and dignity. Our daughter chose to wear wigs that were human hair that looked like her own hair. She lost her hair in 4 months while away at college. We brought her home at xmas time and found her the best human hair possible and shipped her back off to school where she ultimately graduated, went on to a great career and met the love of her life and is doing great. She did not let Alopecia slow her down a bit. We have learned many tricks of the trade regarding wearing wigs and if you ever need any guidance or advice on that we are here to help.

Nice to hear a story about someone making the best of their life in spite of their condition. thanks for sharing!

Yna, you are too young to be using Rogaine.  Do not try any hair loss treatment without a doctor's input and advice.

You can absolutely do track with a wig.  There are wigs available for children/adolescents -- including wigs meant for athletic folks.  Can your parents help you look at wigs?

My doctor said I should use Rogaine but I've stopped now:)

my understanding is that rogaine helps existing active hair follicles grow faster but will not reactive follicles that are dormant due to autoimmune issues.

Our derm says the bit about hair falling out if you discontinue use is only applicable to people using it to treat androgenic alopecia, not people with alopecia areata
