How do I know what I'd look like if I took a razor to my scalp? Are there any good/somewhat accurate programs out there?

Also, I see some people who look like this:

And others who look shiny bald with no hint of hair. if I'm pretty pale + brown hair, am I more likely to look like the guy in the photo? If so, I'm less likely to shave it because, at least at this stage of my AA, it would be even more obvious if there are weird brown patterns where I saved vs. the smooth white where the AA has taken its toll.

Decisions, decisions.

I shave my head. I used to just have a buzz cut but I like shaving it better. I think it depends on how close of a shave you get if there are any patterns. I was given the advice to use the head blade and I love it. It was developed for men who shave their head so they can get a close shave. I got it at Walgreen's and it is available online.
I agree with Alliegator. When I shave v. buzzing I have a lot less of the darker area showing where I still have what could be called "slightly fair" amount of hair? I have heard and read great things about the headbalde, but haven't purchased one...yet. Right now I am using a Venus razor and it seems to give a very nice smooth finish without nicks or scrapes. I'll have to check at Walgreen's next time I'm in town!
Tough decision!
I know it was for me the first time I shaved my head. It started out with what I called my "World Map" It slowly faded with time and a good tan helped too.
I tried all kinds of razors but the thing that worked best for me was an electric shaver.
Hi Jason:

If you have a iPhone/iPod Touch, HeadBlade has an app that's kind of fun to play with.

Mine is dark in active growth areas...no matter how close I get. I don't mind it...very cool patterns. Good luck...most liberating
Jason - the question I would consider is "why do you care what others will think?"

If after shaving you match the photo fine. If not, so what? You do what makes you comfortable. I'm 45+ and learned years ago that spending your life energy conforming to society's normative demands is a waste.
You need your head shaved by a professional if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself. And it is my humble opinion that a shaved head is a lot better looking than the "patch" look. But that is something you will have to decide for yourself.
