I thought I'd share this with everyone. This little girl with Alopecia had a birthday and none of her friends showed up. I posted a note on the FB page. I think we should all rally to support her.

I was a bit perplexed by this. While I'm all for supporting a kid with alopecia, it's not clear to me that had anything to do with her classmates not coming to her birthday party. I'm a parent of a non-alopecian kid who once had only two kids show up to his party (and some mean things said about his invitation leading up to it), and I have wondered what happens if you have a party and no one shows up. But I think it could be more a reflection of modern etiquette failure than anything else. Parents are busy, weekends are valuable, RSVPs get overlooked, kids get sick, and through no one's ill will a party can be missed. If the girl is getting bullied or left out at school or if other parents are afraid she has some contagious condition, then that ought to be addressed, but by this time in the school year, I'm guessing her little classmates are so used to her that they don't even think about her alopecia.
