Does anyone have any good recommendations for beach vacation spots?

Before I got alopecia, I used to love going to the beach, getting a little tan, and swimming in the ocean. But with a wig or scarf on, it's too hot and uncomfortable to enjoy the sun. Swimming with a wig on is no fun, either. I have one of those $5k suction wigs that stays on perfectly, but turns into a knotted mess in the waves. Also, it doesn't look very natural when wet. You can tell that the hair doesn't move like hair that's attached to the head.

I would love to vacation somewhere where it wouldn't be to awkward to go around bald (which I usually don't do). My past experiences have typically involved obnoxious kids and their parents shouting, laughing and drawing attention to me. What great role models, right? I want to go somewhere to relax, not to deal with people constantly gawking at me.

Any ideas???

Last summer, I went to Destin, Florida on vacation. Where we stayed, the pool was open late. One night we all went out to the pool, and there were tons of people everywhere. I went bald and not one person stared or said anything! During the day, I wore a baseball hat so my head wouldn't get burned. No one commented on it then either. You might try a baseball hat. They aren't uncomfortable to wear in the sun. I think I am going to Costa Rica sometime this year, so it will be interesting to see what it is like there. I hope other people respond with suggestions! You might find a place to rent in like Florida that has private beach access or that isn't a tourist spot.

Well....I know Lake Michigan has a small beach but those waves can get really nasty some days. (When I was seven some friends and I got to go to the shorefront and we made it a game out of worrying our mothers by running into the surf as it rolled in. We all got soaking wet and it took hours to dry off...) I do know that the Shamerock Hotel in Wisconsin Dells has two pools one indoors and out and they're both open all night long too.

EDIT: Shamerock Inn! I got it wrong sorry!

I too love to swim, although mostly in pools. I wear a NAmmu hat. They are really comfortable spandex swim caps you tie in the back. I started buying them a few years ago when I was losing my hair. I go underwater and they stay on fine. They are about $15 each.

Maybe wearing them would be easier for the sunbathing (I think the NAmmu hats are SPF too) and swimming. Mine are pretty feminine. One is purple and one is magenta with white polka dots. I may order one with a flower pattern next.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your vacation!

Two Words: Nude Beach! I highly doubt anyone would even notice your bald head there ;)

Of course vacations are created for relaxation. I'm planning a vacation soon, but I haven't figured out a destination yet. Maybe you can advise me where to fly to have a good time?
