You've heard of the "Great American Smoke Out" - the day when everyone is encouraged to stop smoking for just one day?

What if, for ONE day, all the bald women in this country (or whatever country you live in) came out in public with nothing on their heads? Imagine the effect! People wouldn't be able to assume that every bald woman they see has cancer. Bald women would become non-remarkable very quickly, just as bald men have. Women like me and other members of AW, who already go out in public bald, would instantly stop feeling so alone.

I'm thinking of making a YouTube video and setting a date for sometime during the summer (when it's warm everywhere). If I picked a date - say a Saturday in July - and put up a YouTube video now urging all bald women to join in on a National Bald Out THAT day, would any of you who don't currently go out in public bald do it for that one day?

Maybe we could get a news service "flash" out there and get TV and print media to pick up on the story! Anyone know how to do that?

I don't know what category to put this in...it's about society, and acceptance, and news, and promoting awareness...so, I'll just put it in Bald is Beautiful, and hope you all see it.

Please share this with other friends on AW and respond - YES OR NO...would you join in?

HERE WE GO! I just put the video on YouTube. You can find it under the title "Announcing the National Bald Out!", or at this link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXxBKwi-1lw

I hope you all like it! Thank you to everyone for their comments and suggestions as to the content, and special thanks to the lovely ladies who allowed me to use their photos at the end of the video. I think that adds a lot.

On the Bald Girls Do Lunch site, www.baldgirlsdolunch.org, there are some absolutely amazing T-shirts, buttons, banners...and loads of other fun items with two different National Bald Out logo designs, as well as a great one that says "Bald? So What!" I LOVE IT! Thanks so much, Thea! To view the items, click on "Logo Products", then click on "Bald Out July 19". Remember - 100% of proceeds fund the BGDL nonprofit's national outreach to women with alopecia areata, so your purchase of a National Bald Out T-shirt (or other item) will directly benefit women with alopecia.

The next step is for everyone to join the newly-created Alopecia World group "National Bald Out". Until we get the Group up on the Home Page, you can go to this link to join:

A big Thank You to rj for all his help!

I'll be posting more soon on the National Bald Out group.

Thank you Mary and of course... I'm honored you want to include me. Please feel free to use any of my photos.
Thanks, Nicole!
ok so it is July 19th? are any other canadians interested??
I am VERY SHORTLY going to be posting an announcement of a new group on Alopecia World - just for the National Bald Out. I also have my YouTube video ready to upload, and the T-shirts are going to be available through the Bald Girls Do Lunch website. All of this will follow soon.

This event is what anyone, anywhere wants to make it, so yes - Canada, England, Europe, wherever! Once I get the discussion group started, it's my hope that women from different locations will use it to make arrangements.

Stay tuned...
Mary
UPDATE

I have completed my video announcing the National Bald Out! I'm going to be putting it on YouTube within a few days. Thea is finalizing the designs for the official NBO T-shirts, and they will be available on BaldGirlsDoLunch.org. There is going to be a new Discussion Group on Alopecia World that I will invite you all to join when it's up. It will be entitled "National Bald Out", and it will be a way for everyone (including women who find us via YouTube) to share plans and ideas for July 19!

PHOTOS
If there is anyone else who I haven't already heard from who would like me to include their photo at the end of the video, please let me know right away. I can use photos that appear on AW. I have around 16 already, which will be fine.

I'm getting excited about this...I think it really could be the beginning of something! It will be up to everyone, wherever they are, to make the day into something in their own locale. We'll try for some national publicity, but I think it will be mainly local events this year.

Mary
Hi Mary, well done on all the organising. You've done a grand job.

I don't think I replied about the photo. I am more than happy, but wondered if you wanted one with me bald? It would seem more appropriate I guess?!

Gwennan
Thank you, Gwennan!

I am using photos of women who are already going out bald. What I say in the video is something like: "join these proudly bald women on July 19...."

If you would like to email me one, that would be great.

Mary you totally rock girl...
If only the NZ community were more aware of AA then I would consider shaving my head totally bold to support this awesome day. But i'm also seeing regrowth on my head. Just a few bald patches here and there and i'm totally free. I just wish my hair would grow back sooner rather than later...

Lets see how I go next week.
Go Alopecia Girls...
where can i get a t-shirt ?
Hi Kaitlin-

Click here to see the Bald Out July 19 section of our logo store or go to Logo Products on our home page
In that section you'll see our three new designs created just for this event. The items marked Made in the USA are made by the wonderful company American Apparel.

Be sure to take a picture! and thank you for supporting our nonprofit for women.

I love the script design! now that there is an official day I am going to see if my local radio station would do a story on it.
