Hey everyone, I have a wig that is NOT human hair and after a few hours it is a nasty tangled mess in the back n I know people are probably looking at my rats nest in disgust lol. I mean it gets really bad... Any suggestions besides carrying my stupid WIG BRUSH around everywhere and constantly brushing it?!?!? I am supposed to wash it every 6-8 weeks which I do... and I have conditioning spray, but umm apparently I need something else. Any experienced wig wearers have any helpful advice?

i've never found long synthetics to wk for me.Also curly synthetics don't wk.Putting the conditioner on underneath in back may help.Sweat cld b causing it or jus traction.
If its longer u cld restyle it 'n cut it to b shorter in back. Also putting a cute scarf over it may make it less noticible. Good luck.
I've never attempted washing my own wig before. I pay to have it done where I bought it. It's synthetic and I'm petrified of messing it up, but I think I'll print out your instructions and give it a shot. Fingers crossed!
Hi Andrea, It's really easy to wash your wig. I have always washed mine just remember to use cold water. Just follow Susan's instructions and you will be o.k.
I like to dry my wigs by hanging them from a plastic curtain hook from a curtain rod - I found out this works best for me.
BUYING: The warm nape of my neck frizzed out longer wigs in back, so I sadly only go to medium length now. (Longer wigs also got caught in back buttons...so now, I buy collarless, jewel-neckline tops, and dresses the button in front.)

HEAT: I never use any heat. I do not even have the wig on when cooking, because that can damage synthetics. Of course, Thanksgiving meal is started in a babushka, and I have to rely on the family to take things OUT of the oven and cut the meat after I have dolled up! I messed up a perfectly good wig for my 50th birthday when I used electric rollers on it. Argh!

COMBING: I only use metal wig combs, as plastic may cause static. When combing, I use one hand to hold some hair at the cap, then start gently combing at the ends with the other hand, until I am up to the cap before starting the next section. Pulling and tugging at tangles without holding with the other hand can pull out strands. Ya just can't comb it the way you did your birth hair!

WASHING: I wash every weekend to make sure my wig smells nice, and I use back-up wigs or scarves to get me through unexpected contact with Earthlings. Misting and scrunching (with hands) the dried wig can restore original curls and styling. Let dry on wig stand. But watch out for those men with rude comments about scents, because the revitalizing mists do have a fragrance!
Thanks so much for all of your helpful advice!!!!!
Your wig looks very nice, Aimee.
These things are great, Aimee! I ordered a hat fall with virgin russian hair from Russian Hair Company and I am very happy with it. It is without a doubt way cooler than my wigs. I don't think I am going to wear full lace wigs again after I had this experience. I got natural straight but I wish I would wait for this wavy one they have now

Try using Brandywine wig products
Like everybody has said, for synthtic go shorter. If a short wig doesn't work for you try medium length. I think you may have tried washing it only 6-8 weeks because you thought it would destroy the wig if you washed it too much. Synthetic wigs are definitely harder to maintain. I'm not too experienced at wearing wigs, but I do know wigs that are shorter are easier to maintain. Good luck :-)
Hey all. I have a custome made lace front human hair wig. I find too that my hair seems to get really dry and knottier at the ends. What is the best way to keep my hair silky and smooth. I do wash it once a week or so. Do i have to use only wig products on it?
