Help me!!!! My 5 month old human hair wig has just become unbearable to wear. I can have it completely smooth, free of knots and one hour later its a tangled, knotted mess. I have tried many different products and nothing seems to help. I found a wig website that said you can treat this problem by adding bleach to hot water and combing it through for 3 minutes while its soaking in it and then rinse out. Has anyone tried this, and if so, did you lose the color in your hair??

Yes. Have heard of adding bleach to detangle human hair wig. Karyn, who owns JMC wig/ hair salon in pompano Bch Florida on sample road told me about it. I am currently waiting on a custom HH piece from her now. She did say "you have to b careful". SHe told me because one of her customers needed to do it. I bet u can call the salon and ask to speak with her. Tell her u heard about her on AW. She's nice and 20+ yrs of wig experience. Hope u get it detangled!

Please repost on here when you get a answer from the salon, because this sounds crazy to me, I would think it could ruin the color and the hair itself, I think about what clorine in a pool can do to your hair, I would be afraid to even try without a professional telling me it's OK. I wear a human hair wig, have not had any tangle problems with it, but it is short, would like to know for the future tho. Good luck, and I hope you get the answer you need to help your wig.

plz use this plant fruit for better growth. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citrullus_colocynthis. plz cut this fruit into two size and apply in night where ever affected. and wash in the morning. daily apply for 4 to 8 months. many people in india using this fruit for 1000 years. there is no side effet. i'm also affected by this disease. now i'm total recovered by this disease

Hi Hope...I've actually seen a YouTube video with a lady doing the actually bleach bath on her wigs. I can't think of the lady's name at this time, but search wig bleach bath n YouTube. She goes step by step which seems like a very easy process. If your human hair wig tangles excessively, it may be that the cuticles are not flowing in the same direction or not present at all. When you purchase your next human hair wig, make sure the cuticles are present and are aligned in the same direction flowing downward. You will notice a huge difference.

I have heard that if you find a salon that will do the 'brazilian blowout' on your wig it will fix it for months. I do think the cuticles are not alligned and whatever process the wig mfg used to make the hair smooth has worn off. If it was a very expensive wig I think I would contact the company that sold you the wig

Don't bleach your wig!! OMG....I have been working with my daughters wigs for 13 years now-sometimes i think I should own a wig store (or at least do a wig advice column.) Anyway, the reason your wig is giving your problems is probably the way the human hair was treated prior to being put into the wig.
I have found out (after thousands of dollars) that not all human hair is equal. There are many things that play into how the hair will stand up over time.
What part of the world the hair is from, if the hair has been chemically treated prior to being placed in the wig, how the hair was collected, if the cuticle is left on or off the hair and many other items.
All of these items together add up to give you the problems you are now having. Many time people selling the wigs will just tell you that your wig is a HUMAN Hair wig and that will sound impressive and enough to charge you the BIG BUCKS. There is a lot more to it.
The hair you want (that won't tangle) is European Virgin Hair. You will pay more for it-- but it will remain soft, not tangle and will last for over a 18 months. Well worth the investment.
As far as the wig you have.... I would first try to use a product called "Its a 10" conditioner. It is the product that hairdressers use when they work on wigs as they learn to do hair. It is a very strong conditioner. I would suggest trying it and leaving it on for at least 15- 25 minutes (comb it through) and then rinse well. If you still are having a problem then I would take it back to where I purchased it and see if they might be able to aerate it a little. Sometimes it is too thick and that causes the tangling. Also, make sure you are using a conditioning spray everyday that will help with the tangling. Where ever you purchase your wigs should be able to suggest one.
I hope this is a little helpful.
Good luck--- DON"T use the Bleach........

One thing of major importance is how the hair is collected

HI Everyone....thanks for your comments in helping me out with this problem I was currently going through.
Well Alopeciamom, I didn't read your comment until after my experiment, but IT WORKED!!! I am so grateful for google and the website "Hollywood Hair and Wigs". Without them, I wouldn't have been able to fix my hair by myself and spending money again on a new wig. I believe the problem that I had was just a huge amount of build up on my hair from so many products that I use.
Anyway, I was nervous about trying this experiment on my hair, until I realized I would just try it out on one of the old wigs that I have refused to throw away yet. And it was amazing, you can read about how to do this bath on their website under how to get rid of tangles.
But it basically deals with using bleach for no longer then 3 min., rinsing it in soapy water, dipping it only twice quickly in ammonia, soapy water again, and then conditioning it. It approved my hair back to its original no matting way!! So happy again and that I'm not having to look in the mirror constantly to see if its sticking up all over again.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

I was also told my my wig stylist to use Dawn liquid dish detergent to wash the wig when there is buildup - I did try this and it really worked. I also use a lot of product and look in the mirror sometimes and see the back totally bunched up and sticking up.

Thanks BMG!

Did you notice any color change after the bleach bath?

No...not at all. And I currently have the bottom dark brown and the top is light brown with blond highlights, it didn't change anything.
