I have been treating myself without drugs/steroids quite successfully over the past six months (in fact I haven't taken drugs or steroids for almost 2 years so I hope they are all out of my system now). I had AT just over a year ago and was beginning to lose my eyebrows. I knew I had to do something. Today I have all of my eyebrows and a full head of white hair (all different lengths, but not patchy anymore).

I have made a lot of changes in 2010 and I believe that these ongoing adjustments (tweaking) I am doing is making the difference. I am happy to share what is working for me in detail with anyone who is open to healing. There is simply too much information for me to post on a discussion board, but I would be happy to email back and forth if that works for you.

Hi Chris and Everyone,

I found a book review that I know would interest all of you. It was for a book on amazon and I have nothing to do with the author or anything, but I have found what was said here is TRUE. Please read below:

This review is from: Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic (Hardcover)
I stumbled upon this book when it was first released and it changed my world. I had many of the symptoms relating to Celiac Disease and no doctor had ever suggested testing for the disease.

I was relieved to find the reason for my Alopecia Aerata. My dermatologist never said anything about a possible link to Celiac Disease.
I never saw one reference to Celiac Disease in all the literature I got from the Alopecia Foundation. How could that be?

I am angry at how pregnant women with anemia are handled. The medical world assumes that a young woman presenting with anemia is anemic due to heavy menstrual flows. That is a bad assumption. It turns out my anemic condition was due to an intolerance to gluten. So despite how much iron I ingested, I was still anemic. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl who had language delays and was later diagnosed with Autism. She had "pica" (kids who want to eat paper, ice, chalk etc.) Pica is a sign of iron-deficiency anemia. She also had many other symptoms relating to Celiac Disease but the medical community did not connect the dots because she was thriving. How many children with autism or ADHD have mothers with symptoms of Celiac Disease? Pregnant women are tested for so many things. I believe Celiac Disease should also be on the list.

This is an outstanding book that every person in the medical field should be required to read. Patients should insist their medical providers receive better training. The pharmaceutical companies pay for our doctors to be trained on the latest and greatest drug. They don't have an interest in this area because they can't make any money from telling patients to go gluten-free. Our local Gastroenterology Group receives money from a pharmaceutical company for testing a drug to treat irritable bowel syndrome. Those gastroenterologists are not looking for Celiac Disease in their patients with Irritable Bowel.

I have been trying to create more awareness in my little world. I have bought many of these books to pass on to all of my friends and family.

Anyway, Chris I have become a vegan and am having good luck with my hair. If you want to know more, I'll write to you. Beth
Pleeeeeaase pass on the name of this book - thanks so much for your tenacity, Beth. I have been trying to cut gluten out of my diet (with some success) but will definitely remove all from my diet. I am so glad that you are having success with your hair, Beth - good on you and thank you for sharing your success with us!

Sorry - I read this email very quickly when I was last here and missed the title of the book - thanks again for sharing, Beth. I am glad that you have got to the bottom of what has likely been causing your hair loss! I am going to read the book and see how I can apply it to my own hair loss!
I know we have emailed but can you send to me again what you are doing? I am due to have a hysterectomy this thursday and am scared it will make my hair worse-Dr says no. It so bad now dont know how it can get worse but all fall out-I have to wear a wig anyway! I may have some regrowth but spots just keep coming up
I would love to hear from you , I have had two injections but i told the dr last time that I didnt wanr it anymore cause they hurt too bad , for such little result . My dr does beleive that it would be of my benefit to stop eating any animal food products and soley eat only plant derived foods . She said all the hormones and other junk leave your body open to auto immune deseases , and cancers I havent tryed this cause I've been a meat eater my whole life and it woud be a hard transition . Do you think this is a crazy idea or something I should go with.
I don't think it is a crazy idea at all - meat is very acidic in the body and many chronic conditions are a result of that. Maybe start slowly by cutting out red meat and go from there - see how your body responds to less animal protein.
About meat, read the book, "The China Study" and read the book, "Eat to Live". If they don't convince you to become Vegan, nothing will. Even my daughter's doctor has become Vegan!!! That is a miracle in itself. People are waking up to the fact that we don't need animal protein. Humans have alkaline saliva, just like rabbits; whereas, carnivores have acidic saliva, like dogs and lions, etc. Our alkaline saliva can't really digest heavy proteins like meat and dairy. Even chicken isn't good for us. Doesn't it make sense that we just should eat more fruit and veggies!!! Actually, fruit is wonderful and helps you eliminate toxins because it makes you go to the bathroom more!! Anyway, there are some wonderful things to eat out there - like beans (after 3 weeks or less you don't have gas). More and more people are realizing this. Don't do any soy, though, unless it's organic and leave those soy burgers and soy hotdogs alone because most of them are not organic and are made with "Round-up Ready" Soy, which will totally make you lose your hair. Eat other beans. There are a lot.

Beth
yeah my doctor explained to me that anything that comes from an animal is not healthy for us to eat . She said the fat stays in our colon for 6 months. I'm christain and so is she so she also says it's in the bible not to eat anything that sheds blood. She recently became a veagan 5 years ago and says shes never felt so much heathier.I also know a few other doctors who are veagan with the exception of fish cause she says its good for the brain. Thanks for the feedback that leaves me something to think about tonight .
Hi Chris, I would love to hear about what you are doing. I have had AA for 22 years and don't expect to ever grow my hair back, i am ok with that, but would love to find out what I could be doing to help. I am ready for a huge change in my diet and am interested in what you know.
