I have FFA.  It had burned out and I place Derm Match on my areas to conceal the loss of hair almost daily.  Last week I noticed that after 2 years, I am losing hair on my left side again.  It was just and area of a nickel and it is now a rectangle.  The loss on my right side is significant so I became alarmed and my dermatologist saw me immediately.  She gave me steroid shots.

In reviewing the internet information, there is LLLT that has been successful in some cases.  I also see Dr. Jerry Shapiro and I saw in an article or you tube that he mentioned the study in Miami with LLLT.

Has anyone tried it?

Betty, we need to use several treatments together to try and slow down FFA there is no one treatment that really gives a satisfactory result. At the London conference held by CARF last November lasers were discussed but none of the derms here in the UK were offering lasers as treatment. One FFA patient had purchased her own laser helmet to use at home.

If you have the chance to try lasers then I would go for it, it is a very low risk option unlime the oral medication that we are prescribed.

I also recommend you consider using a holistic approach: anti inflammatory diet and supplements to really tackle the inflammation in your body for long term health.

If you decide to use lasers can you post on the frontal fibrosing alopecia groups page what it was like so other ladies with FFA can get info about this option.

Good luck.

Hi Betty: I am interested in what Dr. Shapiro has treated you with.  I have used tacrolimus in cetaphil cleanser on my hairline for about 3 months.  He was an author on research article where that treatment showed some results.

What has he put you on?
