I know the gluten arguement comes up time and time again but I encourage eveyone to watch this video featureing Dr. Tom O'Leary. You may think you are gluten free and not be (gluten is hidden in so many foods. And, despite giving up gluten, the quinoa and other grains that you are eating may also invoke an allergic response causing hair loss.

Just because the gluten is removed, doesn't mean that the digestive system, the root of autoimmunity problems, has been healed. Leaky gut is one of the most common causes of autoimmunity and also one of the most challenging things to heal

Below is a link to a diet that can help alleveiate leaky gut:

I have been almost 100% gluten free for 3 months and my body hair is reappearing, but it is so important to be 100% free, as Dr. O'Leary explains. I am starting the SCD diet and will report back as I go through the diet.

Hi Chris! Glad to read about your progress! Going gluten free is definitely worth a try.

A quick note about Tom O'Bryan though; he's not an MD but a chiropractor with an interest in gluten sensitivity and celiac disease. There is a well known Thomas A. O'Bryan, MD, who is a researcher in infectous diseases, but this is not the same guy. I'm not saying that Tom chiropractor doesn't know his celiac things and I'm not trying to be a smart***. And he definitely has some valid points. I do however find it borderline fraudulent to make a name for oneself as a "Dr." in a field that is not connected to ones education. I wouldn't let an LL.D. remove my appendix... :)Just thought you should know.

Hi Mattias - it actually goes beyond gluten. For me going gluten free was just the beginning of the journey that I am still on to discover how I became sick and how I am going to heal it.

Here is a link to a film that explains how autoimmunity has come into our lives (as well as many other modern day diseases). It sums up a lot of the research that I have done and explains the reasons as to why we need to be on an organic diet that does not contain GMOs. Dr. O'Bryan fills in some of the gaps such as why being gluten free is not enough to reverse the damage caused primarily by GMOs.

What works for me may not necessarily work for everyone. These are just starting points for anyone who wants to heal their bodies - we each have to take responsibility to get to know our bodies and then tweak our diets, excersise regimes, sleep patterns etc. according to our individual constitution. I have discovered, for example, how my stress levels have also impacted on my health.

Finally, my experience is that you don't need to have a degree in medicine to become an expert in any specific health area, nor does becoming a doctor necessarily make you one. After 10 years of research, I understand alopecia far better than my family doctor and the dermatologist who was injecting cortisone into my head. And in no way am I saying that I am by any means an 'expert'on alopecia. Most of the people who I have learned from are not alopathic medical doctors (who have been trained to write prescriptions, not get to the root of the problem) but people like you and I whose health has gone sideways and when the medical community couldn't help them, they went in search for answers on their own.

I agree that leaky gut is a huge problem and linked to autoimmunity. I hope that good, solid research can be a priority for the hope of all who suffer from the many devastating autoimmune disorders.
Oh, and just to clear up the gluten and grain point you made. Quinoa is not a grain. It is a seed! And very good, nutritionally.

RE: Quinoa may be a seed, but the iportant thing here is the body's response to it - treats it like a greain :)

I have not heard that. Is there something I can read on this because I've been really following this quinoa lately and have not come across this information. Thank you.

It's now almost a year later. How are you going with this Chris? Have you healed your gut? Have you seen more hair regrowth?

Cheers
Mayo
