Enjoying exercise and sports with AU! How do you do it?

This question is more for the ladies, how do you go about your exercise and strenuous activities whilst covering up?? I love running but now I always have to wear a hat over bandana. The gym is out because it seems weird to wear a hat there. I suppose I could get a swim cap for swimming. I love to snowboard and it took me a while to figure out I could wear a head/neck cover with a helmet. It's hard to do activities with a wig cause they might escape plus they get all itchy, hot and sweaty.

What do you ladies do????

I would love to do a triathlon, but am hesitant about going from swimming to another activity where there might be some exposure in front of all those strangers switching into running gear! HELP!

I go to the gym every other night, all ive worn for the last 5 years is bandanas (othe rpoeple wear them in the gym too) i just tie mine differently to everyone else! I can run, jump, hop, skip etc etc without it ever coming off, and the bonus is it soaks up the sweat! (yes ewww i know) x
That's my favorite unexpected benefit about wearing them when i run, no sweat in your eyes! So you just use a regular bandana?? How do you tie it? Or is some of your head exposed, like the lower back of your hair and around the ears?
Thanks!
I appreciate that this may not be for you, but check out my photos and video of me scuba diving, hiking, dancing, drumming ....my solution is to be cool and comfortable. I haven't let being AU stop me from doing the things I love, and I refuse to be uncomfortable. I tried teaching my folk dance class (which is very strenuous) in a scarf at first, but I just get way too hot. Guys with hair loss wouldn't think of wearing a cap or anything warm when they're exercising. Where is it written that we have to?

Good luck.

You go girl, do a triathlon, don't let this damn disease stop you.
When I ride my bike or horse, swim, hike or walk 90% of the time I am ah natural, the only thing on my lil bean is sunscreen. If it's summer, I either wear a scarf, bandana or straw hat. I found a great place to purchase swimming bandanas on the NAAF site, the company is called NAMMU, the swim bandanas are colorful & do the job in protecting your bald head in the water from sun burn, their web is www.nammuhats.com take a look see what you think of them.
More then anything just go out & do your thing girl, I agree with Mary, be comfortable.
I believe in choice, to go ah natural or wear a cranial prosthesis. These days I find myself going ah natural more & more. In time you will find what works best for you. You will also develop techniques that work for you in situations such as in the gym, shopping, ect, for me its smiling, I just smile, it works 95% of the time.
I wish you all the best.
My daughter works out all the time with her wig firmly in place. She also wakeboards in the summer. She was a cheerleader last year and tumbled in front of the crowd. I did not worry about her wig coming off because if you pulled on it, it would tear her skin before releasing. She removes it with alcohol. She wears a swiss lace cap and it has become part of her, she is much more comfortable with her wig on than off.
Hi Karen, thanks for sharing! So does your daughter glue on her wig each day?
I wear a halo wig with a bandanna over it to exercise. I tie the bandanna like a biker do-rag so the entire scalp is covered and secure. The trick is not to fold the bandanna completely in half when you start. Fold it diagonally about 3/4 down.

It is either the second or third demo in this video at about 1 minute 15 second in. http://www.ehow.com/video_4973982_bandana-folding-styles.html
Great video! Thank you Gina for sharing! Love the guy --- knowledgeable and fun!
Google the keywords "buff headwear". I just ordered 4 of them yesterday. They appear to be the perfect solution for me.

I bought a few cotton skull caps. They stay put and keep the sweat out of your eyes. I like Sparkling Earth website- tons of styles, range from $6-12. I especially like the rhinestone one that says "Yes! I bite!"

Liked it, didn't have the guts to buy it :-).

I regularly workout at gym and prefer wearing comfy workout leggings and tank tops. I like to purchase cotton stuff as it easily absorbs all the sweat. Carbon38.com is my favorite website for shopping of stylish workout gear at reasonable prices.
