Hello! I had just became a member on this site today. I’m looking to see if anyone has anymore information on dyeing/bleaching your hair when you have alopecia. I first got alopecia when i was 21, 5 years ago. I had 3 spots, 1 the size of a baseball on the back of my head and 2 smaller ones on the side. Luckily, my hair all grew back after receiving shots from my dermatologist. I found this 1 on the side of my head about 2 months ago and i am not seeing too much progress. But, i am looking to still dye my hair and keep up with it. Just half of my head is blonde, does anyone know if this will affect my alopecia or trigger any more spots? Thank you!!

Hi, I am sort of in the same situation.  I am recently diagnosed for the first time and in my 40s. I color my hair blonde highlights with foils and then straight color at the root.  I went ahead and colored a few weeks ago to try to keep up with some normalcy.  My long time hair dresser just avoid the areas impacted (I have about six the size of quarter - half dollar).  Luckily I have thick hair and for now I can disguise them but I fear I am getting close to needed an alternative solution.   Since my last coloring I haven't developed any new spots or more rapid hair loss.  I've colored my hair for 20+ years and just don't think these two things are related.  I will say that my hair is usually super fast growing and I have roots within two weeks.  I am on week three and no new development at the root which is scary.  I guess my hair growth every where has slowed.

Hello! Thank you for the reply! Have you seen any regrowth since yet? I made an appointment with my hair dresser for July (soonest i could get in). I will keep you updated on myself as well :)

Amanda Cobourn, I'm not quite sure about how would it work with bleaching or dyeing, but when I had some issues with my hair, I found a great article (on this link), that helped me with a lot of examples of protective styles, and how to make them up. It really helped me with my self-confidence. Maybe the tips on that website will also help you somehow.

hi thank you for the reply! I’m definitely going to take a look at that article, i appreciate it :)
