Yesterday, while sitting in church and "listening" to the sermon, I leaned over and whispered in Cheryl's ear.

"Hey, I just noticed something about you."

"What?" she responded.

"You don't have any hair!" I quietly exclaimed.

My wife started laughing and simply said, "Too late!"

On another occasion, the battery in my mobile phone died while we were talking on the speakerphone to our favorite cousin.

After I recharged the phone, our cousin called back and said, "What happened, bald head?"

Since I was sitting right next to Cheryl, she could hear our cousin and immediately asked, "Hey, who is she talking about!"

All three of us laughed.

And my wife and I laugh often, not just about her alopecia, but about just everything under the sun.

It's not a cure for alopecia, but it's still some of the best medicine either of us could ever take.

Do you and your partner ever joke about your alopecia? Why or why not? If so, please share a funny story with the rest of us. :-)

Nathalie, rj also never misses an opportunity to tell me that I am beautiful and without a doubt I believe he means it. I would figure that your relationship is similar, if he knew you would be offended or hurt he would not joke about it.
I think it also has to do with where you are with your alopecia and what your partner really thinks about your alopecia.

I know that I know, that I know that my alopecia is NOT a problem for rj, so I don't see or feel any hidden messages. He is well aware of what he can joke with me about and if he knew it would hurt me, he would not venture there.

I love our light side, it is a lot of fun.

Pat getting alopecia has given me a gold mine of one liners and some of my physical comedy involving her shiny little head are so cool.. I mean come on what man ever thinks his wife will go bald so when she does use it though I will add only in the privacy of our relationship. I may be shallow but not that shallow as to use my jokes in public, but man i would love too.

On vacation, I let him be the first to cut my remaining hair off in a special place, and be there for the first times I took my hat off to reveal my bald head in crowded tourist spots. The joke was asking strangers to take our photo (me with hat), then take a second photo "another way" (me, suddenly bald). Sure wish I could interpret what the Japanese tourist holding my camera said to his friends in Muir Woods! They seemed to be giggling...probably at the two bald heads!

On the way back from a winery (where I did my first reveal with a shaved head), I posed sans hat under a street sign that read "Bald Hill." Perfect! He laughed WITH me, not AT me!

Hi, let me apologize to you instead of the japanese tourlist, if you were hurt by them.
At the same time, let me excuse, Japanese do not get used to react joking and express their feeling. Especially in English.
I'm bald but if I was in same situation, I would not react so well.

I respect your courage to show yourself.

Thank you, Momoko!

It was a running gag when my folks got headlice that I was the lucky one. We still make jokes over it but good heartedly. I don't have a partner so it's my folks and me (I'm sixteen) and we make jokes on occasion. But not often. My dad once tried to cheer me up after some bullies started chanting boulder head at me and said: "You have the cutest boulder head ever." But it only made me upset with him. Since then he hasn't dared make a joke like that again (I was eleven at the time.)

Mostly though it's the classic: "At least I don't have to worry about how my hair looks." It's funny when my cousin would cut hair and I would tell her: "Hey least you don't have to deal with my mop top anymore."

I used to have curly hair really curly hair and it was a real shock to lose it all...But I don't care anymore. Alopecia is me.

All the time.. Haha

My wife and I had our 4th child a couple of months back. Not long after, she started talking about wanting a 5th child. About 2 weeks later I get diagnosed with AA and I told my wife "See, this is what happens when you entertain the idea of a 5th child." She got a kick out of it.
