I have AU and also have weak brittle finger nails and toe nails. Does anyone else have same thing going on?

Yes, my fingernails are also brittle, ridged, as well, and I have AU as well.  My toenails seem to be O.K.

My fingernails and toenails have been very very badly affected by my AU. Once they grow about halfway up, they flake off completely. They look awful and it;s painful when they break off. I have to ask my kids to open things and pick things up off the floor for me as it's impossible without nails!

It is the alopecia that causes this, and as far as I know there is nothing to be done about it. I am sure some of the suggestions made here help, but they don't actually treat/cure the situation.

That being said, I have been on Xeljanz for one month now, and I have already seen a huge improvement in my fingernails (not my toenails though). Not a hair to be seen yet, but even just the fingernail improvement is a huge benefit for me. I hope my toenails follow suit, and that eventually my hair does too!

I have AU and only my fingernails are affected.  They turn lose from the nailbed, have white blotches, chip easily, and peel from underneath.  I keep gel polish on them or they would chip away to the quick.
