Hello.  Around November of 2016 I developed a terrible problem with overall extreme scalp itching plus stinging plus the feeling that my hair was being pulled hard. I also had a lot of overall hair fallout. This situation continues til this day. Back in May of this year I discovered 2 bald spots. I have seen 4 doctors about this, including 2 dermatologists who diagnosed alopecia areata. But none of these doctors will get interested in my scalp problems. Have any of you experienced scalp problems along with AA? I would like to know if there is a connection between these 2 conditions, and my research has not led to anything that makes me believe people with AA have scalp problems too. I am wondering if something else might be causing the hair loss. If you could share any info I would be most grateful. At this point my terrible uncomfortable scalp is causing me more distress than the bald spots. I don't know what to try next. Thanks.

I know that many with AA have said that they have tingly scalps, some get breakouts like pimples, and some have extreme dryness or oilyness.

I am going to suggest that you go to the upper left of the page and find the link for All Discussions; click on it and then type in scalp in the search box. This will bring up everything that has to do with your subject. Happy reading.

Thank you for helping me navigate - I'm new to the site, so I'll take all the help I can get!

I have suffered with AA for many years now. For me, at times, not all the time, before my hair is getting ready to fall out, areas of my scalp where the hair ia getting ready to fall out become tender to the touch and stings in the exact areas where the hair will eventually fall out. I have never had an itchy scalp with AA. I suggest you see a different dermatologist. Best of luck.
