We saw the dermatologist for the 2nd time today after our initial diagnosis a month ago. Luke is only 4 years old and she suggested we start using the Rogaine as well as the Levaque (sp?). She said that will make his hair grow faster. I'm just so nervous about using adult products on little kids. She also said to take his hats off and let him run around in the sun for a little bit because there is some evidence that UV rays help suppress the immune system. I'm just so unsure about all this because there just doesn't seem to be any real answers. Would be interested to hear if any of you have tried this and if it helps??

I highly recommend taking hairfibity pills && using rogaine. I put the rogaine in a container where I can gently run the nozzle through her scalp and massage her scalp then I give her one hairfinity pill each morning with a glass of water her hair is thick and long now after six months use

Hi, my daughter is 4.5. When she was 20mo she started having AA and our specialists (paediatric dermatologist) in Australia mentioned about Rogaine and the other one but said he didn't think the drugs were worth the potential side effects for such as young child. When she was 4, we saw a paediatrician in Canada who was surprised that the Aussie doctors would even think of giving these meds to a child.

We never went for the meds and if I were you I wouldn't either.

Topical treatment using essential oils diluted in carrier oils and ginger juice (JAK inhibitors) on top of a solid diet and no harsh shampoo have got us to get most of her hair back. Sometimes when we start noticing a new patch forming or an area of hair thinning, the essential oils solution helps keep things under control. The key is to be diligent and choose good quality oils.

I agree that there are no real answers, not even from doctors we've seen at prestigious children hospitals in both Aussie and Canada. Our AA is said to be an autoimmune condition, so I set out to look for answers on how to fix the root cause, the immune system. Recently, by chance I came to know about certain foods like reishi, ganoderma, cordyceps, etc. (they are mushrooms_ that have been studied for their immuno-modulating properties, ie ability to rebalance our system. My daughter has started to take these and I got ours from a reputable company that I trust. Too early to tell but by far the best hope I've got in trying to solve this from the source.

Vitamin D has not been directly linked to cause alopecia but enough of it can help improve the condition, so worth it if you can get some sun time.

I would still stay clear of meds for a child, not only is the efficacy questionable, side effects may not be worth it and there are lots of cases of recurrence some time down the road.

Can you please tell me where you purchased your essential oil topical treatment from and the exact combinations and amounts you use. Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.

Have you tried the natural and holistic route? I only suggest this route, because it has given me results. After two years of trial and error- I have my hair and health!  (Thank the Lord and the Heavens) and am now on a mission to help others too. I have posted on my IG account, (same name) with so many articles about people doing treatments, meds, and all with no results or horrible side effects that have led to other illness and issues. I wrote a book and researched so much and am please to share that my client also see results. Try going holistic. It will take time, but your body will heal from the inside out. Don’t ever expect overnight success. No pill will give you that, bu rest assured, mother nature and natural healing has no negative side effects. Wishing you all the best. www.alopeciaangel.com for more info, pictures, testimonials, my story with pics and much more!

Please let me know if this works , my daughter is 16 and has now lost all her hair, praying for hope as this is a difficult time for a teen. Thanks

I wouldn't use Rogaine or any drug on a 4 yr old.  I think docs feel like they have to try something because of the parents reactions to hair loss and a fix it now attitude.  They feel that doing something, anything, is better than doing nothing.

If the boy is otherwise healthy and well adjusted, then leave him alone.  A lot of the time we, as parents, make the situation worse by our fussing & worrying.
