I was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata in May of 2013 after finding my first bald patch hiding in the back of my head. Since I've lost all my hair, experienced almost full regrowth and about a month ago started to notice new patches again. I won't dwell on what it felt like to watch my beautiful hair fall out or describe the emotional and social ramifications because you've been there and understand how difficult it can be.
Imagine my surprise when a simple google search about a medication I've been taking for the past three years mentioned a side effect that between 1 in 10 to 1 in 100 users experience alopecia!

I have been to see two walk in doctors, my general practitioner, and a specialist each of whom I told which medications I was on. I was tested for lupus, hepatitis, thyroid issues even syphilis and EVERYTHING in between. Nobody looked into my prescription....a dose that had been increased within the year.

I called my GP and have switched medications to one without this side effect. My hair has stopped falling out but I don't yet know if this is reversible. At first I was frusterated but have since just become thankful that I discovered the link. I urge you all to do some research about any medications you are on I'm sure mine is not the only one with this side effect.
Bach2 gene may be the causetag:alopeciaworld.com,2013-07-25:2022678:Topic:10738592013-07-25T15:57:29.699ZTallgirlhttps://alopeciaworld.com/profile/Tallgirl

The National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF) applauds the National
Institutes of Health's (NIH) announcement that NIH
scientists and their colleagues have discovered that a gene called
BACH2 could likely play a significant part in the development of
autoimmune diseases. In a study of mice, researchers at the
National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute of
Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), both part of
NIH, found the Bach2 gene to be a critical regulator of the immune
system's reactivity. The foundation for this research was
earlier studies showing that DNA from patients with diverse autoimmune
disorders often had minor alterations in the BACH2 gene.
"The identification and characterization of Bach2 is an
important advance in our understanding of autoimmunity,"
according to Jeffrey Frelinger, PhD at University of Arizona's
Department of Immunobiology. Read full story here>>>

I shaved my head in August this year for Locks of Love. I don't have alopecia and it doesn't run in my family. But since I was a children and after my father's death from cancer, my mother taught in a young age to give to others in need. Since then, I always wanted to give back to the people.
Anyways, I'd like to donate toys for cancer children's hospital. I will be asking people in my school to give toys. I know that my fiance would not like the idea of shaving my head again, but I would like to do it again to show the little girls with cancer that they don't need hair to beautiful. I would like to visit them, give them their toys, and let them know that they are beautiful bald. My fiance is in Afghanistan, but I think it is wrong to not tell him and keep secrets from him. I was raised to always tell the truth or the Lord will make me pay for it later.
Should I do it behind his back or listen to my gut? If I tell him and he says he is not happy about it, then what should I do?
