About Me:
I'm a 21 year old university student in Alberta. I am an accounting major and an international business minor.

I was just diagnosed with aa this past January. Right now I've lost a big patch on the side of my head over my right ear, a big spot just above my neck, and I'm starting to lose hair on the other side of my head. I'm just learning to cope with this and have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions. I recently bought clip in hair extensions to cover my spots but I'm dreading the day when I won't have any hair to clip the extensions on to.
Are you 18 or older?

My story

I first discovered my bald spot during Christmas break while I was at my boyfriend's house. I was playing with my hair... I felt a bald spot at the back of my head but I had known it was there about 6 months prior. It didn't bother me because when I was in high school I had a small bald spot near my upper hairline, and it grew in. I just thought this other spot would grow in too. But that day I asked my boyfriend to check how big the spot was, and he told me it not loonie sized... more like a 6… Continue

Hey!
Most delayed response..ever..sorry! I kind of forgot this site existed after I made my account. I'm also in Edmonton! I know too how it feels to have to deal with the hairloss a bit later in life. I was 18 when I found my first bald patches and it was devastating. But, now 2 years with AU and I'm feeling pretty good. It won't beat you. Cause Alberta girls kick too much ass..haha!

Hey I remember feeling the patches for a while before asking someone to look at it...by that time it was the size of the palm of my hand!! I have alot of hair loss at the moment (I have recently put up some pics) but I can still cover it so thats is always cool. I need to get those clip in extensions though. Can you clip them in and out whenever you want or do you need someone to do it for you?

Hi Christine,
How are you handling this? I started getting spots when I was in my 20's -- now I have AU. I'm doing really well. I wrote a book about it to help other women like me. It might help you feel better --you can check it out on my page, and click on my web site.
Take care! Things will get better!

Hello
Good to read your profile here. I'm sure this will sound obvious and I'm sure you're all ready there but hats, scarves, caps, Buffs can provide just as much or as little coverage as you need. There are some great funky headwear fashions around at the moment, all of which means that headwear is very 'blendable' in a crowd. It's a temporary measure but one you can change as many times as you like, without the kind of commitment of hair extensions.

Welcome Christine. It can definitely be hard to cope with at first...all very confusing and scary. But there's a lot of people out there who understand and it's good you found this website. My advice would be not to shave it all off until you have to....many times the patches will grow back. And if they don't, then you can look into the wig thing. There are lots of wig options in every price range imaginable. Take care!
