About Me:
I am a mom to two beautiful girls one 12 and on 9, my husband and I have been happily married for 18 years. We have been blessed with a wonderful life, health and all that we could ask for. Needless to say Carlys Alpoecia threw us all for a loop. Carly has been such a strong girl through all of this. I feel sometimes as though I am strong for her and sometimes I feel so sad and angry and bitter and overwhelmed . I know she has bad days too, I dont want this to defeat her. This site is so helpful, to see all of the beautiful positive people helps all of us.
Thanks

Hair transplant????

Just a question to throw out there..... I saw Oprah yesterday and the were talking about hair transplants and how they have improved over the years. Does anyone know if they are ever used for AA? Can someone else donate hair for say a family member? Is it not effective because the patients immune system would attackor reject the hair if Alopecia is not in a remission? Thank You.

Hi Amy! Yeah I still have a love of white fuzz all over my head. But that seems to be all it is. It has never darkened / thickened into what I would consider hair. Who knows though...maybe it still might. I try not to get my hopes up because I feel like that would just make it harder on me. But really I'm perfectly happy either way. ;) I'm so glad Carly is doing well with school. Sounds like she has some great friends and she is starting the year with a super attitude.

Hi Amy, it's nice to finally meet you! Carly is an amazing girl. And I think that you have helped her to realize her inner strength. Alopecia World has too, but I think it has been her own ability to give herself permission to be who she is that has made the biggest difference. My son checks up on her every now and again, and when ever I'm on he is curious to see what she is up to. LOL (he has a crush on her)

Thanks Amy! I hope that Carly is doing well, too. Sounds like shaving the head helped her, and that's fantastic.

I am so happy to hear Becky has been making some friends on this web site. I know this also has helped her out also dealing with the difficulties that come along with having AA. Things have gotten a lot easier now that Becky has decided to wear her wig. It seemed to help her self-confidence. With all the stuff these pre-teen girls have to deal with already I know this is not easy for them. As for me my heart does break for her. I wish she didn't have to go through this. I try my best though to be strong for her. I can't show her how upset I get at times or the tears I have shed because I know this would only make things worse. I am very thankful also that her classmates and friends are very aware of what is happening with her and are very supportive and so far have been very kind. We take it as it comes and keep smiling.

My daughter was diagnosed with AA about 9 months ago, so I guess we are still somewhat new to it all and learned new things all the time. She started with a large patch and then a few smaller ones on top. We did do the cortisone inj and found much success with that! She has since been able to stop those and we are just letting things happen as they will. She is very thin all over (except for the inj sites she has about 3 inches of hair growing straight up). She does want a wig, etc yet. I can't even get her to want a Hairdana thing yet, which I would really like her to have. Luckily her friends haven't somehow noticed, which I guess I'm thankful for. What other types of treatments have you done?

Your daughter is beautiful!
I have a new book out that you might be interested in, called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" It's full of information, personal stories and helpful advice for women and girls with AA. It think you might find it valuable for help with your daughter. To find out more, go to my page, or go to www.leslieannbutler.npauthors.com.
Let me know how you're doing!
