About Me:
I am 26 yrs old and have had Alopecia for 23 years! I have dedicated my life to helping people with Alopecia cope with the emotional aspects with it, as well as the hair replacement portion of it...I currently manage a Full service Hair Replacement center in Minneapolis, and work with people suffering from my hair loss.

My GOAL...is for everyone with Alopecia to be able to be comfortable, confident and live the life of their dreams!

I am an active member of our local NAAF support group, as well as a volunteer counselor for Camp Discovery- a camp sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology for kids with Skin Disorders. I first attended camp the summer of 2000; and camp has changed my outlook on life with AA immensly. (If you are interested to learn more about camp please visit www.campdiscovery.org)

Camp is what persuaded me to dedicate my life to people living with hair loss, I just felt (and still feel) like I have a lot to offer people who are stuggling with the disease.

About how long do your integrated hairpieces that are bonded last?

hi Bethany, thanks for your reply. i think Paige is beautiful too--with or without hair.i really appreciate all you wrote. this is the 2nd time her hair is falling out. she first lost her hair last jan--by june it had all grown back. all those pictures are from june until about 3 weeks ago. the entire top is almost gone now--it's exactly how it fell out last time. she still has her eyebrows (last time they fell out) but who knows if they will stay. tommorrow is her first day of kindergarten so i guess she'll be wearing a hat everyday. i spoke to her teacher, principal and school nurse so everyone is on board. Paige is so ok with what is going on. i am so thankful for that. i just really want to preserve the confidence that she has. when you were a kid, did you ever experience teasing?
i'm actually doing ok--this web site really has been so eye opening for me. it is just hair!! there are so many amazing people on here that have just really been so supportive. i know we will get thru this and i do not intend on keeping her from doing anything she wants to do. we are going to some alopcia specialist in long island in 2 weeks. am i wasting my time? sounds like every person on this web site has tried everything at one time or another. the only thing i've used on paige is topical steriods--i don't plan on using anything that hurts or scares her. absolutely no injections! when i hear what some of these mom's are doing i just can't believe it. that could cause some serious psychological damage! anyway, thanks again and any advise you may have would be awesome. my direct email is Megan.Maher@aeny.com. take care.

Bethany,

I was on Dawn's page and linked through to yours. Do you wear the Amy's Presence line in your photos? I went to a place today (in Houston) who carries those wigs. Do you like them over other brands? My story is similar to Dawn's and I tried on a human hair clip-on topper. It looked great but it was $675 - OUCH! Do you know of any places in Houston?

They told me the best method would be to shave areas on my scalp and attach it that way. I guess kind of like Hair Replacement.

How was your integration piece attached? Cables or clips? I went to a hair place in Alpharetta and they showed me a few. I thought this would be ideal since I had some hair to work with. They pretty much talked me out of it though. They were telling me that they were usually more trouble than they were worth. They said it would take alot of work every morning and that the hair slides out alot unless it was braided into my hair they told me this could make the alopecia worse and that it causes headaches and soreness. They told me I would have to have it retightened for it to look right and that alot of people find it uncomfortable.

Are you wearing a hair piece in your pic. Your hair is beautiful. I still have hair but it has been shedding for the last 6 years all over. I don't have any spots but it seems my hair is thinner on the sides and on top. I had tons and tons of hair to begin with so it has bought me some time. My hair was also curly and dark and is growing back finer, straigter, and lighter in color. There are times I wish it would just all fall out and get it over with. I don't know if that sounds crazy. I have tried to wear a wig but I think if I were to go with one I would like to wear something semi-permanent like a Freedom Wig or Hair replacement. I would worry about it sliding or falling off. If you are ever near this area I would be interested in a consultation.

Hi Bethany. Do you ever get to Charlotte LOL I have been to the place you suggested and he says i dont need anything, i guess I have to trust him yet I feel I just need something in places, so I dont know who/what can offer that.. You'd have to see me to understand what I need.... If you are ever in Charlotte, please let me know as I would trust your judgment..... thanks
