I am a graduate student working on my master's and credential in school psychology. I am a swimmer, a cyclist, a runner. I am a triathlete. I am always active and always looking for the next adventure.
I have had Alopecia Areata since I was 6 monhs old. I did not have eyebrows or eyelashes until I was 7. I did not have to worry about shaving until the end of high school. I continually have patches of peachfuzz on my head that I shave off. I've gotten to the point where I do not want the hair to grow back...it is just easier this way. I am who I am...
Hey good luck this weekend. Which triathlon are you doing? I am going up to Idaho in a couple of weeks to watch my friend compete in her first Ironman. We have done alot of training with her this year but she has been badly injured this past two months!! and she told me yesterday that there is a rumor the swim might be canceled because it is still so cold!!!
As bold as I am about alopecia, I admire your ability to 'be' bald. I almost always wear a hair piece or bandana if I'm not at home. It's funny......I'm not modest about being naked, but I'm modest about being bald :) Like it's for intimate eyes only!
Funny....my baby is almost seven months old....he sees me bald, with a bandanaa and with a hairpiece.....
I wonder if he thinks I'm three different people ;)
Hey how are you doing? I just noticed that you are into triathlons!!! I am a triathlete as well. I completed 2 halfs last summer. It is such a nice distance - the half. It feels like you have done something significant without spending every living moment thinking about it (as you do with a full Ironman). I just got a mountain bike recently so I have ALOT of fun playing with that. Wow imagine we are both baldies and enjoy doing sport - sooo much in common ;).
Hi Mary, I wanted to welcome you to Alopecia World. I can honestly say that we are a great community here and I hope you enjoy the time you spend with us. Cheryl, co-founder
My grandma had thyriod disease for half her life. The Dr told me I will have this for the rest of my life. I did get that test of the future for type a diabetes and the stress fat hormone or something-they came back negative. Every little thing I find on my body from bump to feeling sick I think here we go with another autoimmune disease cause my Doctor told me about being prone to have others. But for now I just take it one day at a time and live and enjoy life:)
I like you pics:)
