I'm 26, live in Scotland and have had alopecia areata since I was about 16. It's only recently become more noticeable as previously my patches grew back in again over a few months.
My head is about half bald, half hairy but all my hair is on the top so it covers up most of the baldness - for just now. I've ordered a couple of wigs in anticipation that it is going to keep falling out but I do have hope that eventually I will get regrowth. I'm a believer that this will happen when my body decides it wants to happen and not by undergoing lots of treatment. I like to keep the hair I've still got healthy and not worry too much about searching around for something that may or may not encourage my follicles to start working again. "If it's for me, it won't go by me."
Are you 18 or older?
Yes

yeah its a bit the same for me, 5 weeks till I leave the country so busy trying to pack up a house and condense my last 8 years into a few boxes...mission!! Not really needing the forum so much anymore either, life is pretty good really, probably the best its been in over a year...I've found being bald is a lot easier than the process of going bald!!
I know what you mean about being tired with the same look, had my 'look' since March now, cant do much else with this wig, really looking forward to not wearing it for a couple of months and working the bald look :-) never thought I'd be saying that!!
Great news with your regrowth!! I have a bit of fluff on the part of my head thats had no hair on it for 3 years, very weird. And yes, very excited about the freedom wig, just looking forward to being able to do more with it
Erica,
Did you shave your head? Can you wear a wig with hair under it. My party is Sat and I have an appt at a hair loss salon Fri at 4pm. I am freaking because I need to cover my head! I want to find a wig for the weekend or I won't feel comfortable. I went shopping with family thats here from Ireland and I saw my bald patch in the change room mirror. UUGGHH. I hope I can find one quick
Thanks - that’s me trying to be fashionable with my maxi dress!! Can't really see myself wearing my in the beautiful British summer weather though!
I use everything on my hair. I figure I could worry about so much that it would kill me, so I try not to. I have never even thought about using different bands at all. I mostly use just plain thin black bands though I have a few funky slide too that I use to put back some of my layers on my longer hair - apparently these are fashionable too! Who knew!!
Anyway, I would say as long as you are not pulling out your hair band all the time and re-doing your hair then I wouldn't worry too much.
I went to the dermatologist yesterday…only waited 1hour 40 mins to see the doctor!! He was trying to tell me to use some new treatment on my scalp, but I am not keen. I don't see it as a scalp problem as it is all over my body! Also, don't fancy using these irritants as they apparently are very uncomfortable and spread pretty fast so my boyf could expect to have the lovely itching too!
I did however get a prescription for a wig. The prescription is £59, so actually only a £20 saving as I bought my last wig from a lady in American. It was great actually, less then half the price I bought the first same one in London. I'll give it a go this time though and when I move back to Scotland I will def get them for £5 a go!
Hi Erica, thanks for your comments, I really appreciate it.
Yes, I have a big patch on the top of my head now and I have a big university reunion party next weekend. I am thinking a wig might work because I am pretty self conscious. I'm not sure how long to wait before getting a wig or something since I can still comb over . Its so frustrating.
Yeah, we watched it...it was great! Also rather funny as my boyfriend is called Andrew Murray too! Good Scots names I guess!
We were in Tenerife on hols, I'm abut to put some pictures up just now. It was lovely and hot and chilled, with lots of good food and wine, perfect!
Off to the dermatologist next week, hoping he gives me some prescriptions so I can get some more hair...fingers crossed!
Hope all well with you. K xxx
Your hair looks great! I read what you worte on Coy's page, and it your new hair looks great combined with your original hair - great that you can do that as you still have a hair line.
Hope all is well with you. I'm just back from holiday and it has been a loooooong week at work! Want to be back in the sunshine sipping cava, and walking along the beach. Ah well, London rain will have to do for now.
