Profile

Relationship Status:
Single
About Me:
I've had Alopecia (somewhere between Universalis and Totalis) since I was 9 months old. For a brief period when I was 5 (about 1 month) I had hair again, and that was it.

I love my look, and for the most part don't really mind it. It's always a good conversation starter :c)

Other than that - I'm an IT Software Engineer, I'm a twin (and no - she doesn't have alopecia - she has hair!!!) and I live and grew up in and around Brisbane.
Are you 18 or older?
Yes

Down - but getting optimistic

So, I recently broke up with, for a second time, the man whom I thought was 'the one' - this time ... I completely blame myself. I won't go into details, but I acted atrociously and now follows the shame and the guilt that should. Along with these feelings, of course, comes the kick you when you're down 'alopecia is a terrible thing to have' thoughts - you know - the feelings you get when you don't want to inflict your appearance on other people, and you can't seem to drag yourself out of bed i… Continue

NAAF Conference

Reading all these posts about the upcoming conference have reminded me so much of my awesome adventure to the USA to go the conference in Oakland in I think 2000. I was so lucky to part of a site at the time called AlopeciaKids.org (which I don't think is going any more) - the owners of the site put together some money to pay for my Conference expenses and gave the awesome opportunity to go - I don't think I will ever be able to thank them enough for it. Going meant the world to me. I was 16 at… Continue

Random Stuff about Me

So, I'm currently sitting at work - on what should be a wonderfully long easter weekend - however - I am instead spending my time in an un-airconditioned office, waiting for some people to complete their work so I can do mine. Yay. Lol - enough of the complaining - it has however given me the time to make my first blog post ever. I heard of this site from my friend (and leader of the Queensland Alopecia Areata Support Associate) Angela, and thought - wow - I must join. It has been about seven… Continue

You're a brissy girl are you? Must be happy about the state of origin then. I was so cranky haha. Bloody QLD lol. How you been? Liesl xx

Yeah, this community has helped me so much more than counselling. I don't look at it as a subsitute at all. Rather I am more the type who would talk things out with friends who understood than a professional who might have a textbook or two but has certainly not gone through it. Thanks for your comment!

Hi Dominique - you have a great picture (the one seated looking down). When I shave my head I might have to copy the idea. I have a photographer friend that is counting down the days until I shave so he can start taking pics. :-)

Hey Dominique....I just read your reply on Signe's forum question about passing along aa to her baby. I just wanted to tell you I totally agree about the trigger thing. I've got aa, hashimoto's thyroiditis, excema and rheumatoid arthritis. Nothing came out until I was in college. No one in my family -- and I mean no one (I've gone back generations) - had anything like what I've got. I think my family all carried this gene and it just took a trigger to set it off. I had that trigger and the rest of my family, thank goodness, did not. My doctor seems to think it was an infection or injury that happened to me in college...but that was 15 years ago and I cant' remember that far back. Hell, I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday!!!! Take care....Daria
