My name is Faheemah. I am 19 years old and a fashion design major at NC State University. As a child, I had really long hair that I was really proud of and that many people used to compliment me on. Suddenly, I begin to lose patches of hair that grow back during 1st grade. In eighth grade, I begin to lose hair again, but the lost was worse than before and in ninth grade I was diagnosed with Alopecia. It was hard for me, because my hair was my everything, but I grew to realized that it's just hair and there are many people out there like me. It was hard for me to explain to people, but many of my close friends and family show me support. I have not lost all my hair yet and instead of shaving it all off, I want Alopecia to do the job. I wear weaves sometimes and wigs too not because I am ashamed of my condition, but because I love to change my appearance. Last year, I was featured in a article in my local newspaper talking about Alopeica. The article was titled "The Perfect Fit"
. I decided to do this so others with Alopecia can learn to love themselves and that being bald is beautiful and also to thank the people who donated money so I could get a lace wig. I have not had the pleasure of talking to others with Alopecia so I am glad that Alopecia World exist so I can talk to others with Alopecia.

Thanks Faheemah, I'm sure when you decide to rock a bald head you will be even more beautiful than you are now. Let me know when you're ready and I'll do everything in my power to make your day of shaving a celebration. Mine was such a wonderful celebration, as soon as I learn how, I'm going to put the video on my sight! Take care and always stay blessed!
Hi Faheemah, I've had AA since I was about 9, my hair was long enough to cover the spots so I just wore a pony tail and/or covered my spots whenever I did my hair. When I was growing up, I wore braids sometimes and hairpieces sometimes. Then as a grown up, I wore weaves, it's been an adventure, but like I said, this is pure freedom.
