It's getting colder. The wind is blowing, not every where you go has the heat on yet and while I struggle with the bald head I love it at the same time.

This will be my first winter without hair and it doesn't look like it will come back anytime soon, so daily I struggle with the thought of buying a wig.

What have other people done to make sure they get the right one? Online shopping? In store searches?

Does a wig ever feel like it is the right thing or like a great partner, you know when you know?

I am so lucky to have a great boyfriend who loves me no matter what. I know that this has been as hard on him as it has been me, so sometimes I think I would like to surprise him and myself with a blast from the past. I sometimes I just wish I could just feel like my old confident self for just a second and not this strong but conflicted woman.

If you don't know when you know, keep looking. I go to two wig shops and try on everything I sort of like...and am sometimes disappointed in the ones that looked good on the styrofoam heads but delighted with ones I never suspected would bring out my eyes, frame my face, match my eyebrows, etc. Last buying trip, I bought TWO synthetic hair wigs, about $300 total. I also sometimes take the color sample ring outdoors to see if colors are too fakey or shiny in natural sunlight, and I bring my glasses to check on fit with wig ear tabs. Never, ever do I order online and chance a poorly-made, yucky colored or ill-fitting wig.

If you like your bald head and would wear a wig only because its getting colder I think beanies can do that to. Its starting to get cold here in sweden so I wear a lot of different beanies or scarfes. I do have a wig but it doesn't keep m warm. The wind just blows right through it.

If you want a wig I agree with Tallgirl, find a wig shop and let them help you try on everything you like and also things they think might suit you. take your time and let them adjust the wig for you so it suits your head.

A tip for when it gets really cold is to buy a base layer beanie to wear underneath. If the wind is blowing and your wearing a knitted beanie it gets cold. I guess a wig cap might do the same if you wear a wig.

I hope this helps!

I am a wigaholic so I can help you there! Wigs can feel like the right thing. The more that you wear them, the easier it gets, and you forget that you are wearing one. There are SO many options available, and you could spend from $50 to $3,000. If look in your area where you live for wig shops, call them to see if they require appointments. Then bring a friend or your boyfriend, and try to make a fun time out of it. Ask them to try on all of the different types of wigs that they have available. If you don't find one you love, don't feel discouraged. I went to 3 stores before I purchased my first wig. I buy mine online now, and it is a good way to save money. However, you take the risk of not liking the wig, because not all of the stores will accept returns or exchanges. Although, if you don't like it, and you can't return it, you could sell it online. I recently purchased 3 wigs from women who didn't like it on them. If it would help, I have a blog where I have wig information, pictures and reviews... http://lifeasabaldgirl.wordpress.com/
Wigs can be very modern these days, and they can be a lot of fun.

Beanies are great as well! I have a collection of them, and I love wearing them in cold weather. I think Urban Outfitters usually has some cute ones. Or, you could wear a scarf on your head. I do that a lot, and you can use most scarves in your closet.

I LOVE this site! Whenever I feel so lost about this hair thing, I get on here and it's like hitting the reset button. All of you give me strength! So, I live in North Idaho and it is definitely getting chilly here too so the "what to put on my head" issue is looming large. I did buy two wigs...one from a local store and one online. The one I bought online actually fits better, but the color on the store bought is better. But, some days I just can't stand the thought of wearing either one and I end up wearing one of my two hats. But no matter which it is...wig or hat... I feel like people are distracted by my head. I notice that when I am talking to them, their eyes glance repeatedly to my head. I always ask myself..am I paranoid? Do I really think that my head is of any importance to any of these people? Of course not. But there are those furtive glances that just keep me off balance enough to be uncomfortable. I guess what I am saying is that Aliegator is right...you need a nice collection of hats/wigs/scarves that make you FEEL good when you have them on:)

Gwen I totally agree! Thank you for being one of those people who helped to reset my button!

I chose my head cover for the occassion.... Wig to work because it just seems acceptable to blend in there.... Nothing at home ( unless I'm cold), scarf for the gym, cotton hats/ beanies on the weekend. Wig if dressing up/ going out....don't pick a wig for warmth as they don't keep me warm. I would still need a hat on top. I hate the feeling of my wig under a hat too. I just pull a hood up if I am outside at work. Do whatever makes YOU feel good.
