My scalp burns where my hair is falling out :0(

Alopecia became a part of my life this Christmas. As my hair continues to fall out, the bare scalp is burning. Anyone experience this and have any suggestions to make this more comfortable. I have been very good about protecting my scalp with the harsh new england weather. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Heather

Welcome Heather. I agree with Natalie about the drugs. This is my four episode (in 23 years). The first bout (1987), they gave me topical corticosteroids, the second they did that and added Rogaine (1989). The third bout (2000), after no success with corticosteriods or shots, I did PUVA therapy (where you take a drug Psorolen and get UVA treatments). This time (2009-2010), I did try the shots - hated them- and they didn't help. I chose not to do any further treatment. I have a beautiful human hair wig and I feel prettier than I did with my own hair! My hair is growing back despite no treatment - so this will go its course regardless of what we do, I believe. I did find out I was hypothyroid this time - though I was not during the other episodes. Welcome to the site and best wishes to you!

Hi Joy. Thanks for the support. I don't think it it "painfull" per se, it just feels like a wicked sunburn. Friday, when I see the dermatologist, can't come soon enough. --- Heather
