Hi folks,
I thought that I managed my baldness and that I had not any more to think about it, as I am going bald now for years. But I am searching a job now and I have had some interviews, but each time, they choosed the other person. Was it for the skills or for the 'first better impression' of a 'hairy' competitor? I want to believe that it was for better skills, but two (hairy) persons around me made me doubting... I guess the next challenge will be to add or take off a wig during the interview? Or systematically to speak about my baldness? I am really tired to give any importance to this situation. Do I have to conform myself to a superficial society? Tiring doubts are coming up in this difficult situation of job research...

HI Leonore, thank you for your post. You help me out in the right direction...
Indeed, it is 'illegal' to ask, so I guess I have to start the conversation regarding my situation out of normal social appearance....

I understand! I went to an interview back in January, and I seriously contemplated going bald to it. I wear wigs to work now, so I talked to a friend about it who works where I was trying to get a job. We thought that I should wear a wig to because we wouldn't want the person or me to feel uncomfortable. It is a difficult topic. We live in a superficial society, but I would hope that it was for the skills, not the hairy competitor. I agree with Leonore, you can ask them that and see what happens.

Write to them asking for constructive feedback on your interview and specifically ask what lead them to the final decision of recruiting the other person. You'll hopefully get some good advice on what to do for your next interview.
Good luck on the rest of your search for a job :)

Hi Alliegator and Emily, thank you for your comments. Emily, I asked them and I did not get an answer, what is quite normal here in France because of strict discrimination law. They are not allowed to choose on other basis than working skills. So: no answer might be an answer anyway...
So, what I will do, is to go to the jobinterview bald, with some wigs in my handbag, and when they will ask me the common thing: "Do you have any further question about the job?" I will answer: "Yes, (blablabla), and I guess you have as well another question about me you didn't ask: my baldness: (explanation and proposal to put on a wig as working dress)"
.... becaus I really really do not want to hide me....and, Emily, sure that the person in front of me will feel uncomfortable... I'll try to make him/her feeling better within the interview...But ok, I understand that I have to manage the situation actively...Have a nice week-end!
