I'm thinking of going back on the birth control pill. I have had some regrowth of my extensive alopecia areata, and was wondering if going back on birth control would make my AA get worse. In addition, have any of you had success with other forms of birth control? I hear so many horror stories about the pill, what have your experiences been with it? Thanks!

Me: alopecia off and on ages 10-20. Then complete growth. Birth control 1989, alopecia started again within weeks. Stopped the pill at doctor's direction, and hair is now all gone on my head...it has been gone since 1998.

Thanks, Tallgirl, when you stopped the pill did the hair you lost while on it grow back?

I didn't notice any difference in my alopecia with or without birth control. However, my dermatologist suggested that it contributes to hair loss (I have thinning hair too... not sure if it's alopecia-related or just genetic) and said that I should either stop it or take it in conjunction with water pills.
