I had AU few years back. Occasionally, it falls and grows back. Sometimes, i went for the steroids shots, sometimes I don't. The shots are horrible and gave terrible side effects such as pimples, irregular periods and putting on weight. Recently, I found my hair dropping excessively again. I am confused if i should take the shots again or just leave it. If I were to do nothing, will my hair grows back again like it did before? Have any of you been experiencing the same thing?

How long was it before you got all your hair back? How many shots you took for how much time?

I finally quit the shots and saved my money for cool wigs. I would rather my maker/nature give me natural hair someday with no side effects, and cost.

Nachiketa: It normally takes 6 months to grow back. 4-5 shots for it start growing back. There's one time where I didn't take any shots and it just grew back by itself. That's why I am confuse and is not sure if my system heals by itself or the shots are effective.
Tallgirl: Thanks for your comment. U are right. Maybe it will grows back someday :)

well i have started taking shots abt 2.5 months back n i'm noticing slight regrowth.. hope it regrows properly within 6 months as you say..
I dont have too much experience to advice you, but you may as well take the risk.. a head full of hair is alws worth it, isn't it? Also, you can control your weight and other side effects to some extent by exercising regularly, and eating lots of green veggies, right?

The shots worked for my daughter the first time but the second time she became AU even with the shots. This condition is random.

Like Nachiketa, I don't have much experience with this, went from thick full head of hair to AU in a few short months this last spring. I am encouraged to hear that with AU, you did have regrowth, as I keep hearing that stats are against it. My opinion, though, is that if your hair loss is isolated to bald spots, and it is less than 50% of your head, go ahead with the shots. If your hair continues to fall out beyond that, spend your money instead on nice hats/good wig and try to focus on general good health. I hope it grows back again!

Thanks for all your encouragement and advises. To be precise, I had experience AA, AT and AU. I took 6 shots per session for 4 sessions. Everytime it works. Even the doctor was surprised that the shots work remarkably for me. But the side effect is terrible, until one time, I leave it alone with no shots. Still there is regrowth but in a slower pace and lesser hair. I think there is still hope for all of us. Let's cross our fingers and pray for regrowth!

even with regrowth alopecia is bound to be a life thing and steroids will never cure alopecia since we don't why it happens. you are beautiful!! save that money and spoil yourself rotten!!!!
