By golly, at this rate I'll be posting three times a year

Not that I'm overly chatty to start with.

So much has changed since my last post, I really have made some positive changes in the life I've got, but still struggling with some of the "big rocks" so to speak.

But I made it a point to do things that were fun and not related to my daily job - some woodworking, some house-fixing-up stuff, some socializing - and some healthy things, I quit smoking (for good) and stopped eating junk - it's helped to deal with all the other (stressful) stuff in my life. Daughter is in a drug rehab at 17. Wife and I really not seeing eye to eye, but stuck where we are. I am at least thankful that my son seems to be doing OK.

On another note, my thyroid went nuts this year and I have started on synthroid. Not sure we have the correct level yet but it seems to give me more energy, feels better.

Prior to the thyroid assay, my fingernails became very poor, to the point that they are flaking right off the nail beds. It's an incredible pain, both literally and figuratively, and I hope this will be helped by the synthroid. It makes doing manual tasks difficult as the nails tend to rip or split, so I have to be careful. I wear work gloves when I can but that's not practical when working around machinery (it's unsafe).

So any tips on how to speed up nail growth would be appreciated!

Hi Squonk.
Some folks here take a tiny dose of Biotin for nails.
Glad your thyroid is cared for...hope the "balancing" act of right synth amount levels out soon.
Have a fun week!

I've also been having similar problems. My thyroid has gone completely crazy over the past few months, and my nails are also barely there anymore. Once I started the synthroid, my nails got MUCH better. Symptoms of hypothyroidism (which I'm assuming you have since you're on synthroid), include weight gain, hair loss, dry skin and weak nails, along with some others. Hopefully, once your medicine starts to kick in your nails will strengthen a little bit like mine have.
