I have had AA for about 10 years. Like everyone else I went through the depression. Actually, I didn't worry about it until I started reading things online and then freaked out. Since then I have come to terms and realized since I have to have a disease I am very happy to have alopecia. However, this is not my reason for posting today.

I was curious to see if anyone else experiences any other symptoms of an autoimmune disease. Does anyone else find bruises on themselves and not know where they came from? Also, does anyone have shooting pains up and down their arms and legs, muscle and joint pains, easy numbing of hands and feet or fatigue? And does anyone else get headaches or little pings of pain when they lose hair (not sure how else to describe it)? Or at least the area on you head feels tender.

Just curious.

I can always tell when I'm getting a spot of hair loss. My scalp feels bruised almost, and the patch is sticky---- raw I guess. I'm tired before the spot happens too. Aside from that, I don't have any shooting pain -but I do have muscle pain quite often. I wish doctors knew more about it, so we could too!

I do wish the doctors knew more. I really get irritated when I read about alopicia and it tells you it is a painless disease. No, I am not bent over in a fetal position crying, but there is some pain.
I mostly wanted to know about others symptoms because I do believe I possibly have another autoimmune disease. So, out of my 4 different doctors I am starting to think my dermatologist is the only one that knows how to deal with autoimmune disease.

Before mine would fall out I would usually have tender skin or a little reddish, irritated. I didn't notice anything too extreme. However, after going to another doctor recently he opened my eyes to some other auto immune disorders that I had no idea about. So some of these symptoms talked about could definitely be another disorder. Hearing about the tingling in the limbs, muscle pain, and stuff like that reminds me of MS (multiple sclerosis), stuff like that. My doctor actually brought up a disorder called Sjogren's, which I had no idea about and no symptoms. Sure enough, about two months later, I have the symptoms. Dry eyes, dry mouth, etc. So try and be very aware of what your body is telling you, because if it is something more serious, at least you will know early!

You should really have a doctor look at you as you may have Lupus. I don't mean to scare you- but I am currently going through the same thing and am waiting for test results.
Other symptoms besides AA that I experience regularly are: lots of unknown bruising, shooting pains up and down my legs, extreme sun sensitivity, fatigue, and heart palpitations. I also feel a pain/burning/tingling sensation when I am going to lose hair.

Your symptoms are very similar to those associated with Lupus. ESPECIALLY the numb hands and feet and joint pain, Alopecia is also a symptom of Lupus. Do you experience a blue-ish tone to your fingertips/toes?

No, but I do have blue-ish tones to my ankles. I call it dirty bruising.

I was recent ally diagnosed with narcolepsy. I did a little online search and I guess there is some correlation. Does anyone else have narcolepsy?
