Where acceptance is all there is!
Recently, I found myself wondering something. When did I stop thinking about my alopecia?
When I first lost my hair, it was impossible not to think about it. I thought about it all the time. Whenever I washed or brushed the strands I had left, when I stared back at the bald reflection in the mirror that I no longer…

Welcome to a supportive space for your real alopecia journey — beyond the highlight reel.

Do you ever struggle with feeling unattractive due to alopecia? How has it affected your self-image and how do you deal with those emotions?

"I recently read on reconnectwithnature.org, in the animal kingdom, hair is unique to mammals, according to Animal Diversity Web. No other animals have hair, and all mammals have hair at least to some extent. Even marine mammals like…

According to an article on Everydayhealth.com:
"Commenting on someone’s appearance is rarely a good idea. And saying these things to someone experiencing hair loss can be unhelpful at best — and hurtful at worst."

This is tragic, but I think it is important that we all share this story. What can we do individually or as a community to help our brothers and sisters?

I came across this article on Refinery29.com and I am sure many with alopecia or children with alopecia will find it encouraging.
"Model Jeyza Gary has a rare, inherited condition that causes her skin to shed every two weeks. Two years ago, she decided to pursue a modeling career while completing her bachelor's degree in special education.…

Hellooooo everybody!
Wow it's been a long time since I've been on the site. I have missed seeing all the smiles and reading all the stories, but my prayers and positive vibes have been sent continually.
I lost my hair in a quick fashion 17 years ago. It was a 3 week whirlwind of hairloss and wow, it was scary. Doctors didn't know very much about Alopecia then (well, at least my doctors didn't) and they kept telling me it was just stress. Sigh. Have you heard that…

Just last year my daughter, who is in elementary school, lost all of her hair. She's had alopecia areata for a few years but we always managed to cover her bald spots. All of a sudden all of her hair was coming out. It turned into alopecia universalis. At first she wore hats to school, then we got her a wig. Kids immediately made fun of her for not having hair and then for wearing the wig. When school got out for the summer she was so relieved. She had a great low stress summer but just…

According to an interview with Vulture that I found on Bet.com, actress Viola Davis struggles with alopecia.
Many have noted that there seems to be an error in the article: The fact that stress does not cause alopecia, but may trigger it.

It has been a while since I have been on the site. The holidays and school took me away for a while but things have settled down again and I intend to do a lot more posts on Alopecia World in the coming months.
I have much news to share, where shall I start. . . .
It was a wonderful holiday season for me, one of the best in years. I had a house full of people for about two weeks straight and I loved every moment of it. Anyone that knows me knows that I love the holidays…

JUST SOME WORDS
Don't wanna be the victim,
Don't wanna play the part,
My false sense of self is tearing me apart.
I'm done telling myself lies
I'm done hearing myself cry,
The way i lived my past wont be the way that I die.
I didn't waste those years for nothing,
I didn't give'em away for free,
the things I've hated about myself,
they aren't really me.
I guess I did it to see how bad it hurt,
I guess I lit it to see how bad it…

Hi. My name is Kerry, and I think I decided to write this blog mainly to get out my feelings of frustration, helplessness, and fear for my 5 year old daughter.
At the end of March 2014, my daughter brought home some adorable school pictures. When I looked at them, I noticed her eyebrows were SO full, and looking at her then, they had drastically thinned. Immediately, I began trying to think back and looking through cell phone pictures of her and I discovered that this had begun…

Hello Alopecia World!
I'm a new mommy (two babies under 2 years old!) and I started losing my hair shortly after a minor car accident while I was pregnant with my son. I gave birth to my daughter last summer and experienced about 90% hair loss following delivery. I'm curious if there are any other moms out there that have had this happen to them? Or anyone that struggles with alopecia and wants to share...
I started writing on wordpress:…

It's been 3 years and 6 months. Unemployment came and went. I had to file for bankruptcy, no money in means no money to go out; no choice in the matter. Difficult to maintain a home with one income where it needs two. I had to give my car back. I managed. I survived because I'm married and my husband works. We cut back as far as possible, even moved into a lesser rent apartment. We were lucky the complex we live in worked with us. While my husband was good with everything we had our moments.…
