What if you do not consider yourself as one of the young, seemingly beautiful with or without hair type.

Where do you go from there?

How do still develop a sense of self even if you do not believe that you are beautiful?

A video that really bought that home for me is the one below from one of our members, Rachel Goode entitled:  “I may not love how I…

A Wisdom Story - The Three Hairs

I love this story so I thought I would share it!!

A Wisdom Story - The Three Hairs

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in…

Ella The Enchanted Princess Who Are You? book helps Maci Huffstetler Through Losing Her Hair

Alopecia is an autoimmune disease that affects hair growth on the scalp and entire body which results in minor or complete hair loss with slim chances of regrowth, for which there is no cure. Bald Woman Problems

I have lived with alopecia universalis for 9 years now. Yikes! All of my thirties were bald! In this video, I share some of the challenges that being bald can have that most people don't know about or even think about.

First and foremost, let's talk about wigs. If you have more than one, people will notice,…

Student with Alopecia takes the crown at local pageant

""Bald is beautiful" isn't just a motto for one Gilbert Middle School student— it's a lifestyle."

I recently came across this article on wxlt.com that I thought I would share with the community.

"Gracie Ann Roland was diagnosed with alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss from some or all areas of the body, a year ago."

"Rather than letting her…

For a Reason Or For Style, Is the Question

Him: "Girl you are wearin' that bald head, is that for a reason or just for style."

Me: First I give him the side eye, then I reply "its because I look so good wearing it, as you just pointed out."  I continue what I am doing and pay him no extra attention.

Him:  "Haha, your sassy; I like you!  Do you shave it yourself?"

Me: Thinking to myself, really dude?!?!  "I don't have to shave it"  I decide to take the educational route and tell him…

Back online again

It's been a long time since my last visit here, and a long time since my last blog post. A lot of other things have kept me very busy; my study at uni (which I am almost done with already), work, projects, friends and moving to Sydney and back.

In my last blog post back in 2011 I mentioned that my bald spots were returning again which could be confronting at times in a society and age where everybody is focused on looks. Fortunately, after a while my hair started growing back again…

She flaunts herself because her sister is bald

Grrr!!!

Ok...

So I'm going to get straight to the point.

I think my sister tries to be "extra cute" when around my male company.

So this guy I'm talking to is pretty cute.

He is both me and my sisters type when it comes to looks.

He shows very strong interest in me or my panties...Still trying to figure that one out.

But anyways...He's likes to mention  my womanly figure[Red flag 4]...Which is a reason I feel like he's only about my private…

I like you, but I'm scared to get to know you...because I'm bald

I haven't attempted at a new relationship since my last.

And I'm scared to try.

Should I tell you later?

Say I do open up and get to know you, but the constant thought of my secret is on the tip of every word I've said.

I don't want to reveal my secret just to have you run the other way.

But if you run then that lets me know it wasn't meant to be, right?

No?

Yes?

Should I tell you sooner?

Well I've asked that question to a ex bf…

Is it a fetish or mere fascination? It may pay to find out

I met the bald woman of my dreams on MySpace.com in the spring of 2007, and I can't tell you how grateful I am that she didn't summarily dismiss me as some creepy dude who simply had a bald fetish.

When I saw her photos on MySpace at the time, I thought she was as fine as they come and I let her know it. Yes, I knew she was bald due to alopecia areata because that was one of the first things her profile stated and she was bald in all her photos. However, it didn't matter one bit: She…

Celebrating three years of liberation

September 3, 2010... this was the year that I took the first steps to liberation. Liberation from myself, liberation from disease and liberation from society's perceptions of what I should look like and how I should be. This date was the day that I shaved my head. 3 years ago I did the one thing that I never thought I would have the courage to do. I picked up a pair of clippers and shaved what remained of my hair. Alopecia Universalis had taken most of it and I finished the task. Its…

Will my bald spots still show if i shave my head completely and go over it with a razor?

I'm Irish and pretty pale and I'm about to shave my head but i am curious to know if my spots will still show anyway. If so then what's the point? Aren't most of us trying to conceal it?
Need answers please.

Shedding hair sucks!

Anyone else tired of seeing hair collect all over your floor, bed, hairbrush? My hair has gotten to my lower back, but I still have large patches over the entire back and sides, with some smaller patches on top. So, of course, my long hair sheds and it becomes very obvious that there's hair everywhere. The worst is when cooking! I'm always scared someone will find a hair in their food and be disgusted.

Makes me want to shave it all off -- a thought that's been around for a few months.…

One step closer to making a difference

After going from having small bald patches that would grow back over a few months, to losing 98% of my hair and half an eyebrow—the journey has been far from easy. I look back now, and cringe over how I would stress out when I discovered tiny little patches that were covered by the thick head of hair I once had.

How I would whinge because my hair was too thick, boring and normal when I was younger, along with other image issues.

How I would kid with my best friend whether he'd…

Finding courage & adventure - Being young, hot, & an alopecian, Part 1

It will be four years in December since I shaved my head. Attempting to balance school, beauty standards, shame, and being in an emotionally and mentally abusive relationship, finding self-acceptance while having alopecia has not been easy. After one huge argument with the guy I was dating, I decided I just needed to be free. While the option should have been to break up with this guy forever, I decided to buy a pair of clippers and loose myself of the beautiful natural hair that I often…

Alopecia awareness! Portland, OR, photo shoot

Hello Everyone!

First of all I would like to apologize for not being on the site more often. You are all wonderful people with interesting and inspiring stories to tell.

A little about me. I was diagnosed with Alopecia 10 years ago when I was 15. Its been a tough road for me and my loved ones. For the past month I have been walking this crazy earth without a hair piece and have been feeling pretty confident about it. Still some ups and downs. Now, I have tried this 3 times…

Doctor Dy here I come!

I am having a wonderful Halloween weekend here at college. I was able to do so many fun things with my hair! :) I have to admit, I am extremely nervous for my doctor's appointment on Friday. I have to decide whether or not I want to continue prednisone or if I want to quit again. They want to do shots in my head but last time those were very painful and only helped on the small spots, not on the large one on the side of my head. I guess you could say it's decision time but really there…
