Here it is again!

Well, same story as last time as it is every time. It was the second week before Christmas. I ran my hand through my hair and there it is. The size of a dime, it grew and then 3 weeks later right after the new year, there was now 2. One larger than the other, like siblings. One trying to out do the other - then at the wonderful size of Almost Silver Dollars, I find a third sibling hiding at the back of my head......

Same as the other two- about the size of a dime - then the hair loss…

Dating advice

So I have read the horror stories on here about what happened when someone had informed their significant other about their alopecia. Since 2008, I have been inflicted with AA and having really done much dating until recently. I have been wearing wigs and sometimes it gets rough and frustrating due to some of the constant pain wigs can create

Well now I find myself in a weird and unfamiliar place. I am currently dating a great guy who seems to be genuinely into me. He has questioned…

New to Alopecia World

Good afternoon, Everyone!

My name is Rebecca, 23, and I am new to Alopecia World. I thought making a blog post would be a great way to get started and to meet other people who are living life with alopecia. All of my life, I have always had long and beautiful hair. Before leaving the house, the one thing that had to be perfect was my hair.

I first noticed my hair loss starting around mid August of 2014 and was officially diagnosed with AA in October of 2014. My hair loss…

A mom needs encouragement

Hi. My name is Kerry, and I think I decided to write this blog mainly to get out my feelings of frustration, helplessness, and fear for my 5 year old daughter.

At the end of March 2014, my daughter brought home some adorable school pictures. When I looked at them, I noticed her eyebrows were SO full, and looking at her then, they had drastically thinned. Immediately, I began trying to think back and looking through cell phone pictures of her and I discovered that this had begun…

I am newly diagnosed with AA; this is what I have started trying

Hello,   I am newly diagnosed with AA, it all started in Jan. 2014, I too have had long very thick and fast growing hair my whole life.  But in Jan. it started to fall out, I was not concerned because secretly I have had lots of challenges with the thick hair.  Feb., it still kept falling out, no bald patches just continuously falling out, lots and lots of hair in bathtub, on floor when styling. By March it was getting thin all over, hair changed its normal thick, somewhat coarse texture to…

There IS INDEED hope. Sadbe worked for me

Dear all,

I have suffered from AA for around 3 years, developing into a mixture of AA and AU over time. At some point, I mostly had no hair on my head, and several patches all around.

In June I started treatment with SADBE and I have to say that my hair has gone back in full (no eyelashes though, as the medicine that I take is not good for the eyes). I am not sure how long the effects will last, but I can guarantee that I look now exactly the same as before suffering from…

The more I see on here...

Hi! I am about to turn 35 years old and after doing some math, realized I have been dealing with AA for 15 years now. It started my freshman year of college - one morning I woke up and most of both my eyebrows had fallen out. I actually didn't really worry too much about it. As time went on, though, the hair on the right side of my head started to recede all along the hairline, along with the right eyebrow. The left side of my head was perfect! This went on for years. I visited doctors and…

There it goes again

I've had AA for a few years now. I shaved my head 9/02/10 and since then I have been patchy, then full head of hair, then patchy again. I understand it will probably be like this for the rest of my life... I've come to terms with that. When I do have hair I color it, give myself a fohawk, whatever I think to do at the time. but WHY is it that when I have a FULL head of hair growing great like this...…

Doctor Dy here I come!

I am having a wonderful Halloween weekend here at college. I was able to do so many fun things with my hair! :) I have to admit, I am extremely nervous for my doctor's appointment on Friday. I have to decide whether or not I want to continue prednisone or if I want to quit again. They want to do shots in my head but last time those were very painful and only helped on the small spots, not on the large one on the side of my head. I guess you could say it's decision time but really there…

The journey

I am a freshman in college and have personally had Alopecia for almost 5 years now. I would say that it doesn't bother me anymore, but sometimes I find myself staring in the mirror and wondering what I would look like if I still had my long, brown hair. I think the hardest part of having Alopecia is that my twin sister does not and I have a constant reminder of how things should be. I know it's not her fault, but I feel like that is almost natural to feel. Fortunately, these moments of…

Giving up on treatment

I've had AA pretty much my entire life. When I was little I had a patches of hair that just never grew. That went into remission for a few years then came back when I was in high school. I've been doing scalp injections for the last decade probably. It keeps the AA in check, but I never have had full re-growth. My AA has always been pretty easy to cover up, until the last six months when I developed a patch towards the top of my head. My hair is noticably thinner (to me anyway) and I'm…

Alopecia...its effects on my kids

I have had AA for 25 years, and in the last 9 years it has progressed to varying forms of AT and AU. I have always had a life with Alopecia, it has NEVER ruled my life, until now. I am in a rutt, I worry nonstop about the effect that it has on my husband, my kids and my life. My husband came back from his second deployment in Dec 10' I had enough hair to cover, a little hair glue here....a little hair spray there.... you know I was making it work. After Christmas I gave up on… Continue

That Time of the Year Again!

It is nearly that time of the year when I have to start looking for some new hats to wear. The summer is gone and autumn is getting chilli. Winter will soon be here and my head is starting to feel the cold already.

I cannot decide exactly what style of hats to wear this year. In the past I have simply worn beanie type hats but perhaps this year I will try something a bit different. A friend of mine has suggested a Theodora. What on earth is that I hear someone say? Well it’s a bit… Continue

New to AA - Do You Hate Showering Now?

OK, this is probably my first attempt at humor (good or bad) since I've come to find out about my AA (more info in my profile).

Showering used to be a fun activity for me. Not the same kind of fun like dinner out with my wife, a round of golf, or anything like that. But at minimum, it was enjoyable...refreshing. Either first thing in the morning to wake my happy arse up and get ready for the day, or sometime during the evening after a long, stressful day.

Now???? Man oh… Continue

What's Your Journey?

Hello everyone. I'm new to Alopecia World, and not surprisingly, the world of alopecia. As my profile mentions, it all started about 5-6 weeks ago with 3 patches. Over the course of those weeks, those original 3 grew bigger and coalesced into larger ones. Additionally, got 3-4 new patches since. This was all SO sudden and took me by surprise. I definitely wasn't ready to deal with hair loss issues. As far as I knew, male pattern baldness didn't run in my family. I've always had VERY thick hair… Continue

Well I’ve done it!!!!!!!

Well I’ve done it!!!!!!!

Having experienced the loss of lots of my body hair I was feeling very much the same as I did when my head hair was falling out. As such, I was tempted to use the same course of action that I had used when the hair on my head was coming out – to remove what was let so that I no longer had to see it falling out.

Well yesterday after about 60% of my body hair had gone (I was really hairy) I went to see a friend of mine who has a business removing… Continue

Would anyone like to speak at my school for a program???

Hello everyone!

So as I said before, I attend Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I would like to have a program (event) next semester (spring 09) focused on "What is beautiful." (got the idea from a vid I saw). I think that it would be a great idea to spread some awareness on campus. I've only met one person (my roomate) that knows what Alopecia is, and that's because her sister has it. Basically, I would like to have a panel also including maybe 3 young ladies and maybe a man,… Continue
