I have AU and have tried lace wigs. I have found them to be for people who don't really need to wear a wig. They say they are for people with hair loss and you can wear them for an extended time (up to two weeks) but if you do, they mat…

Hello Mark, Each of us deal with alopecia universalis in our own way. Even though others have the same or similar issues on this website, we still have our own very individual experiences that can oftentimes be traumatizing and the aftermath of that…

Bald for 48 years!

Hello all,I've decided to muster up the courage to write about my situation,,,Alopecia Universalis! Let me first start off with the good....I've been married for over 30 years and have 3 children, none have Alopecia - thank God. Let me say secondly, it has not been easy. I first started losing my hair at age 8. I am now 55. My hair have never come back. My elementary and teen years were the worst. Thought sometimes of committing suicide. It is my faith in God that I didn't I am strong! I…See More

Thank you for sharing your story j! I developed this condition at 44 years old. Unlike the amazing resilience that you've developed over a lifetime, I've had to accept a new self image in middle age. However, like you I'm also married…

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I have had alopecia universalis since I was eight, but at 55 have developed complete universalis. That is, I did have very minor hair, but now have lost that! I stay faithful that my hair will come back despite what I read. I wear wigs and have NEVER disclosed my situation, regardless of if other have suspected something. I think I've done a pretty good job of hiding it. Believe it or not, I am married for 30 years to the same man and he knows I wear a wig and am sure he doesn't care. Primarily because I do an excellent job of masquerading. :( EVERYDAY it is a struggle, more mentally than physically. I am determine, even in my darkness moments to keep it moving. God is in my corner. I KNOW he would not have put this on me if he knew I couldn't handle it. Even when I sometimes think I can't, I keep pushing forward. I have 3 children, none have suffered with Alopecia! This is my first time writing on any Blogs about this. I refuse to let alopecia dictate my life and my happiness. It will be 48 years soon! There were times when I was a teen that I considered suicide, but now I just deal - and don't care. I still am not courageous enough to flaunt the bald bold look. It is not for everyone. I am just doing me. Today I took a huge step in coming about to blog about this. I am older and this forum was not open when I was young.
