- My name is Cheryl Carvery-Jones. I was born in Montreal, Quebec Canada and recently moved to Detroit, Michigan. I have been living with alopecia since 1991. Throughout the years, I have had alopecia areata and alopecia totalis. My life is not over, so there is still time for alopecia universalis. ;) I have had many ups and down and find that I have come out on the other side standing tall.
It has always been just a given for me to reach out to others with alopecia. I just did it naturally. I became involved in our local support group in Montreal, participated in the national conferences, and became president of the Quebec Alopecia Areata Foundation.
A few months ago someone asked me what I am going to do when I move to the USA. My initial thought was attend or start a support group in Michigan. This all led to starting Alopecia World with my fiancé, richard jones (rj).
rj and I created Alopecia World to meet the online support needs of alopecians. Here we share and encourage each other through our struggles and celebrate our victories, big and small.
On a personal note, I like to blend femininity and strength. A woman can be strong and physically capable as well as soft and feminine. For a long time I thought I "had" to be one or the other, and I had a hard time finding my place. Blending both is very gratifying, indeed.
I also like to keep active. It does not have to be extreme. It can be a bike ride, walking, painting a house, or cleaning the garage.
I recently married richard jones (rj), a VERY special man that supports me in my alopecia and is the catalyst and the great mind behind the research and design of this site.

I tried to look at the MTV true life report but there is a problem because of the distanc. I get the information that it is unable to show because of the region. Ok I am living in germany but I really would like to look this video. If you know a solution please let me know.
Greeting summer
I haven't visited the site in quite some time until tonight -- which means I am becoming more and more comfortable. I was thinking though how greatful I am to have stumbled upon this two years ago while feverishly searching the internet for something...anything...about alopecia.
I want to thank you for creating and keeping up this site. The membership seems to be growing more and more everytime I check in. It's fantastic and is the number one reason for my sanity today -- for real. Kudos and keep up the great work!
