When I was a young girl I had long, thick, wavy brunette hair. It was so thick my mom used to ask hairdressers to "thin it out". Then at age 21 people began to point out a little thin spot in the center of my head near the front which grew progressively worse and worse. Of all the things I could have inherited from my dad, male pattern baldness would not have been my first choice.

I feel your pain about feeling ugly and I also was unemployed for a long time. I never knew how to go for interview, and all of my nice clothes look awful with my hair the way it is. I feel people treat me differently, maybe my hair, or maybe just because I am getting older, or the combination of the two.

I have had UC for 12 years. Luckily I have been able to control it with meds. I was on prednisone for 3 years straight. After I got off of it my hair got really thin, but didn't totally fall out until 3 years later. These autoimmune diseases suck! I think the hair loss is even more difficult than the uc! Are you glad you had your colon removed. There was a time I thought I was going to have the sugery too. Being on prednisone is not fun at all! For some reason I am in remission!
