I'm glad to hear you're doing OK. No NAAF for me this year - I've made arrangements for my brother and I to visit my parents in Puerto Rico, and amazingly my sister will be able to join at the same time (hasn't happened in more…

About Me:
I'm middle aged and have had alopecia universalis since I was 15.

I'm one of those people that is always thinking, puzzling things out, finding solutions. I made may way into a career doing it, lucky me?

I have friends from many places in the world (real people I get to meet and hug!). There is nothing better than to know my friends are happy and healthy.

And yet, something is missing in my life. Like Diogenes without his lamp, I search for something, but what it is I do not know.

I find great comfort here, knowing that others won't have to deal with this affliction in isolation. Technology can be awesome!
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia universalis
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Penguins with alopecia?

Posted on April 10, 2011 at 4:47pm 3 Comments

I sat down to take a break from some housecleaning and came across this article about penguins that either lose their feathers.

It strikes me that there are similarities to what happens in humans.

Yet another relationship blowout

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 8:36pm 11 Comments

Reach out, youngsters, this place is marvelous, I wish I had such a strong support network back in my younger days!

Sometimes I think it's odd that I only post about my "other" problems.

I've had alopecia for so long that I should really be used to it, but deep down I'm not. At some level I accepted it and moved on with my life, but having this disease and lacking coping skills early on led me down a tortuous path. And in the back of my mind it still needles me a… Continue

Researching Stress, Scientists May Have Accidentally Found Baldness Cure

Interesting read linking stress and a hormone in mice to baldness - and the regression of said baldness.

By golly, at this rate I'll be posting three times a year

Not that I'm overly chatty to start with.

So much has changed since my last post, I really have made some positive changes in the life I've got, but still struggling with some of the "big rocks" so to speak.

But I made it a point to do things that were fun and not related to my daily job - some woodworking, some house-fixing-up stuff, some socializing - and some healthy things, I quit smoking (for good) and stopped eating junk - it's helped to deal with all the other… Continue

Getting better all the time

Posted on March 11, 2010 at 11:05pm 2 Comments

Not my alopecia, no. For me thats not going to change, and I'm sure that doesn't matter.

I need to work less and do more. I spend far too much time staring at screens and pushing buttons.

Lets see what Squonk gets up to this year. Plenty to do around the old homestead.

Things are going really good! I'm a teacher now! Just finished school in December, and I've been working as a temporary teacher since January at a high school teaching 10th grade English and also Debate for seniors. Today was the last day. Might be coming back to Chicagoland, but not really sure yet! Gotta find a job.
