"This was amazing! Your song was just moving! I've had alopecia totalis for about 8 years now and I still haven’t had enough confidence to walk around without my wig or bandana and show off the real beautiful me but seeing how confident…"
Hiya! My name is Shanice. I've had Alopecia since I was about 8 years old. I wear bandanas (outside school) and wigs (at school). I love to draw, sing, play sports, hang out with friends and met new people.
I have no yet become comfortable being able to walk around outside without a bandana or a wig. But Im hoping soon I will be C:
My granddaughter is 8 and has a couple of clumps of hair... Her folks are thinking of going with a wig... who did you use? Did you share that you wore a wig with kids at school?
thank you so much! I have to admit, it took me a long time to feel this comfortable and some days i dont feel as comfortable. its a long process, and some days are much more difficult than others. i wish it was a snap of the fingers and BAM! im happy and open with my alopecia, but thats unfortunately not the case.
the most important thing i have found are family and friends that accept me for who i am. i can only do so much for myself but, being able to have friends to pick me up when im down has been the best thing for me.
just remember that you ARE beautiful and that nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams :)
Hello and welcome, Shanice!
Don't worry about not feeling comfortable without a wig or bandanna. I've had universalis for 30 years and I will never go out in public without my wig...and there's nothing wrong with that!
