- Hello my Alopecian Family. My name is Sandra Dubose-Gibson. I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York but for the past 3 years, I have resided in Apex, North Carolina area with my husband and our two yummy daughters :) I developed Alopecia Areata when I was 25 years old which has since developed into Alopecia Universalis. As of 2009, I was diagnosed with Cicatricial Alopecia as well. As you know, the journey to regain self love and self acceptance due to Alopecia is different for everyone, so we must be gentle with ourselves. Not until a few years ago was I ready to get over the pain and turn it into a point of power. Today, I am an advocate for Alopecia Awareness. Helping others is my way of fighting back. On Saturday, March 26, 2011, I competed in a local beauty pageant and have now been crowned 2011 Mrs. Black North Carolina. My platform is Alopecia Areata awareness and healthy self esteem for women of all ages. I competed bald and it was an amazing experience.
As an artist, I use my gifts to as a motivational speaker and songstress. I am glad to be a part of this community where we can all GROW through this experience together. I started a support group in the Raleigh, NC area called the "Alopecia Community of the Triangle." We have occasional "get togethers" and we participate in fun activities within the community to give back as a team and promote awareness. I hope you will join us one day and reach out to us on line.

That is an honest question and I really would like to hear the answers from everyone. Ponder it for a moment and let me know what you come up with. I have had Alopecia for 10 years, the last 6 of which have been with Alopecia Universalis.
