I really want to donate a bone marrow, I'm going to be 18 this month. I was looking on www.marrow.com and there are some condititons that can prevent someone from donating. Would it be ok for me to donate even though I have Alopecia Areata? Thanks in advanceSee More

I've had Alopecia Areata for 7 years and I'm still not comfortable with it for some strange reason, but having a profile in Alopecia World is definitely a big step. I'm just trying to find a way to get encouraged and be inspired. You really find out who your friends are and how petty and obsessed the world can be. I'm the 5th child of 12 children; I love poetry, pizza, basketball and Kobe Bryant. I'm 17 with a whole lot of life ahead of me and dont plan on Alopecia holding me back.

Hello and welcome, Rebecca!
I know how hard alopecia can be; I have had it for about 30 years. Let me know if you need help or support. One thing that you might be interested in is my book, written for women, called "If Your Hair Falls Out, Keep Dancing!" (It just won two national awards!) It has helped a lot of women! There is lot of good info in it, it can answer many questions, and it's a fun read, too. You can find out more on my page. It's available on Amazon.com. Let me know if there's anything else I can do! I am here to help.
