About Me:
I'm a milliner who specialises in making everyday wear hats for women experiencing hair loss. My brief is to design for all the beautiful women behind the hair loss i.e a stylish product that appeals to women with a strong fashion sense. The high street often provides the fashion but doesn't always cover off the practical necessities.

With this in mind I launched a dedicated millinery website in 2007, specifically designing for women with hair loss called -
http://www.suburbanturban.co.uk

The site has received such a great response that I'm now well into designing my second collection. Through a workshop programme I'm involved with at a local hospital, I've met some fantastic women. So what started out as a favour for a client has led me on a whole new journey and one that I hope will show me how I might just make a difference.
Do you have alopecia?
I do not have alopecia
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older
Your Website (Leave blank if you don't have one):

Now here is something I'm proud of - a review in The Times newspaper by Sarah Vine, the beauty editor. She herself has suffered with alopecia and I'm very grateful that she found us and wrote the piece (June o9).

Does anyone know what happened to that video clip from the BOLD project?

Posted on March 27, 2008 at 5:30am 1 Comment

Can anyone tell me what happened to the wonderful video clip that showed a range of testimonies from bold women produced by the BOLD project? The format was stylish with a high fashion take on the photography and the music. It was on the BOLD project website founded by Caggie Simonelli and it was so inspirational for women developing a new image for themselves. Sadly this site now seems to have turned into some sort of advertising portal. Does anyone else miss it and maybe know if it is… Continue

I will keep experimenting. I have lots of ideas - its just turning them into reality that is the problem.

I have discovered your website and just want to say that I think your hats are beautiful. I like sewing and have made myself a few scarves. You have created what I visualise in my mind's eye but do not have the ability to make.

Hi

I just look after New Zealanders with Vacuum Freedom Wigs. They are made in NZ and pretty jolly good LOL. But I would say that.

What I was looking at with your hats was the nightwear ones as people really shouldn't sleep in these type of wigs and I thought that may help some of the people I know.

Just google freedom wigs and you can have a wee read.

HI Nicky

Love your hats. I work with people in NZ with regards to freedom wigs and I will be passing your site on to them as your hats are lovely and sometimes ladies need alternatives don't they :)

Hi Vicky
Good to hear from you and thank you for your kind words. It's is always great to hear from women who love to accessorise with headwear! The scarves you mention are so chic to wear, that many women have commented on what fun they've had wearing them and the number of compliments they've received. When that happens I know women are feeling gorgeous and the whole image thing is going well!!! Suburban Turban has been up and running about a year now and I've really enjoyed the challenge of finding stylish wearable headwear for women with hair loss. We've had a great response here in the UK with women really embracing the ideal of looking good to help boost confidence
- dressing for themselves (not others), and feeling a little more in control and empowered to get out and get on with life.
Thanks for the interest. Nicky Zip

Hi Nicky

I really like your site. I am a big scarf wearer. I wear scarves every day to work - so I was excited to see what you were offering. It's nice to know there is someone looking out for the needs of people like me!!

Hi Nicky! Yeah, who knows -- I think once I become more comfortable with admitting some things...I will most certainly use my career to bring more awareness and assistance to others who suffer from alopecia. Perhaps I am more self conscious because when I am out and about..I know people know who I am.

DO you make or have you considered making hats for men? It would be nice to find something unique other than the standard hats I find in the stores here. There isn't a ton of selection!

Thanks for the comments...and kudos for doing what you do. Do you have a website (for the hats)?
