As usual I wear many wigs due to many patches and having to keep shaving my head. My question is this: I am a smoker the only one in my home while i am wearing a wig, does anyone know if its safe to put the wig outside to air out to keep the smoke odour out?Any suggestions would be great ty:)See More

Mother Nature

Posted on September 28, 2011 at 7:22am 2 Comments

As a young girl, I was robbed of a good childhood, as a young adult I was robbed of being a young adult having to fend for myself with bills, rent, job etc, then mother nature gave me this wonderful man who is now my husband, whom I adore, 3 beautiful children.

For the past few years Mother nature took my hair, leaving me going to crisis centers, came down with PTSD, social anxiety disorder, depression and feeling all alone.

Having been through all this i've learned to accept who I am,… Continue

Today I was amazed when I went to my psychologist for the first time and we spoke and I told her of my alopecia, it was sooo nice that she knew what it was and she just looked at me and said, why are you covering your beauty? I love your hair peice but you are soo pretty i'm sure you'd look stunning if you had no hair, you know what? my heart just melted i've never had anyone tell me this before and this woman I just only met. I for the first time left and felt soo wonderful about myself and… Continue

Hello Lisa :-) I'm sorry that you've been having so much distress from this condition. I totally understand and empathize having broken down at work and having had suicidal thoughts about it. I think you're a lovely lady!! Your life doesn't have to change that much at all once you get past this so to speak. I'm still working through it too at 28, divorced, feeling that nobody will ever want me in a relationship again like this. We all work through many feelings with this, hopefully come out stronger in the end! Good luck to you!! Take care of you!! -Sarah k.

I'm so proud of you Lisa. You have come so far in such a short period. I too love sitting in my yard and feeling the breeze whisper across my head and the kiss of the sun. I wish you all the best and maybe one day we will meet. I think you should look into going to DC next year for the NAAF conference.

I just discovered this "wall." Sorry for not replying in the past.

Yeah, this whole thing sucks. I am still dealing with the spontaneous crying when I tell certain people. But am ok with it. Funny how I can tell certain people and talk about alopecia very "clinically" and others I can't control the waterworks!

One friend, a very casual friend, someone I bump into while walking my dog, asked or complimented me on my "hair" (wig) and I couldn't control a stream of tears coming from my eyes. I knew she was a recovering drug addict... and she showed me her dentures to make me feel better as she lost her teeth due to her past drug use. I still struggle but am wide open to crying in front of people... it feels good.

Sometimes I find myself tearing up during yoga, but it doesn't matter because everyone is a quivering, sweating, blob in the room. It is such an incredible community(yoga)... one girl comes in a wheelchair and has no legs, one guy is "transitioning" gender-wise, another is going through chemo because of lupus. Others are super athletes... It is such a cool community! It puts things into perspective. Look into bikrams yoga in your community.

nice chatting with you...
