I know this thread is old, but this is the point I am at now - do I just shave it? It is still falling out (has been shedding for about 10 weeks now). Picking the hair off myself in the shower every morning is so traumatic. I still have some in the…

I was just diagnosed with Trichodynia and Chronic Telogen Effluvium last week. The hair loss is terrible and sad but sometimes I think the pain is worse. It's a pain I have never experienced before.

I had contemplated shaving as well... I just can't take the pain anymore of scalp burning, itching, pulling feeling, etc... I told my mom and she said "NO"! That hurt that she didn't support it even if it would help me live more…

I'm having this scalp pain too, mostly at the back of my head. Sometimes it feels like of somebody was poking my follicles with 40 burning needles at the same time for a few seconds, and then the burning sensation fades to warmt and my scalp…

Hi! I have heard of Trichodynia and I am pretty sure I have it. I am not new to hair/scalp issues, however. About 5 years ago a derm diagnosed me with Telogen Effluvium. It only lasted about 6 months but then about 2 years ago I began losing VAST…

About Me:
I am 33, a wife and mother to two beautiful boys, ages 4 and 6.

I've never had a hairloss problem until discontinuing birth control last year. Ever since, my hair comes out excessively every day. Because all of my labs are normal, the dermatologist feels I have telogen effluvium. However, she also says I have an androgen sensitivity due to the oily skin, cystic acne and hairloss. As a result, I'm back on hormones and anti-androgens but haven't seen any improvement. The longer this goes on and the thinner I get, I can't help but wonder if I have androgenic alopecia. What's a girl to do? I say be prepared for what may come my way. That's when I found this site. And I must say, you ladies give me the encouragement to endure whatever the future holds!!
Do you have alopecia?
Other type of alopecia
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes

Should I Shave?

Posted on January 21, 2009 at 11:00am 4 Comments

I have been pondering shaving my head for quite some time. I have chronic telogen effluvium and have been shedding excessively for the past year. At first, I believed the dermatologist, the OB and the endocrinologist when they said my hair would stop shedding. They said it was from the 'hormonal shock' to my system from stopping birth control pills 3 months before this started. It sounded good and I found research to support them, so I waited. However, my hair didn't stop shedding after the… Continue

Ready for Liberation

I REALLY want to get off of this rollercoaster ride (constant shedding) and shave my head. My family and friends do not understand. They just see what looks like normal hair (admittedly alot thinner) and think I am overreacting. My question to them is, "how long do I have to suffer before I can liberate myself"? I know they mean well, but they are all really starting to hurt me. My best friend actually laughed at me when I told her I was thinking about shaving my head. She thinks I should… Continue

Kind of sad life is returning to normal after Hurricane Ike

Posted on September 16, 2008 at 9:58pm 1 Comment

This may sound crazy, but I'm kind of sad life is returning to normal after the hurricane that just hit Houston. Please don't get me wrong, I wouldn't wish this devastation on my worst enemy! But for me, once the hurricane was over and we were on survival mode for several days, it was a nice diversion from my consuming thoughts about hair loss. I liked not having power as I couldn't see my receding hairline in the mirror. I liked having an excuse to 'not look your best' every day. We were too… Continue

Hi Laurie,

I have to reschedule our get together tomorrow. My son plays baseball and he is going to get to play and I don't want to miss it. Please let me know when you get this message.

Hi Laurie,

Are your friends still available to meet with us as well? I was not able to secure the private dining area because we don't have enough people attending but as our support group grows this will change. If you have any concerns regarding directions or anything else in regards to PAPPADEUX Seafood Kitchen on 290 my cell phone number is 832-628-9098. I look forward in meeting you and your friends tomorrow.

Talk to you soon.

oh, i see. does anyone in your family have really thin hair? it is a really good sign that your hair continues to grow though. it sounds like some sort of dr. could help in some way. maybe the ones you have gone to don't know what they are talking about?
