About Me:
HOW CRAZY IS THIS: Today, I'm a national television personality who feels alive being on camera and lighting up the screen. I play music in the streets and love entertaining crowds. Strangers come up to me and tell me they love my style, feel inspired by my spirit, and long for my sense of personal freedom. What they DON'T know is that it I wasn't always like this. My hair loss journey began fifteen miserable years ago, a rollercoaster of emotions and experiments; gadgets and glue; depression, repression, anxiety and self-loathing. Like many of you, I tried *everything* with little to no success -- all the treatments, protocols, tricks and fixes. I was a tropical beach girl who became afraid of the wind and sea because it would mess with my careful hair cover-up. I was unable to pay attention to conversations because I was so focused on hiding my hair secret from the other person. I feared intimate relationships, sex, naps (Toppik stains!). I felt ugly and unlovable. Eventually I ended up shaving my head -- while living in India, where I was perceived as a complete FREAK -- and actually kept it that way for four years. Those years were the most difficult but also the most transformative of my life. Today I wear my hair naturally, use no specialty products, and am able to style it quickly (I'm a working woman, wife, and toddler mom -- no time or energy to spare!). I go swimming, love the breeze, enjoy sex with my spouse, and am no longer afraid of staining my pillows.

I wish I'd known back then that Alopecia World existed, but I went through the trauma all alone because I couldn't even conceive that anybody else in the world would understand what I was experiencing. If you're here, congrats for finding AW! And if you're struggling in your journey, I'd love to connect and share what's helped me in the hope that your suffering might be alleviated just a little bit quicker. Reach out and break the silence!
