Are there any nice, short, 20s-style finger-wave wigs for white women?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Holly Jan 28. 10 Replies

I can't seem to find any 20s finger-wave style wigs anywhere, except for costume wigs in cheap synthetics that look laughable, and nicer, often human hair wigs for black women only. There don't seem…Continue

Being bald sucks sometimes

"This is all pretty much exactly the way I have felt about alopecia. You expressed it very well, and with a lot of grace. I would have pulled a lot of funny faces talking about it and waved my hands everywhere, but you just did it with elegance. ;)…"

Up-styles with full-lace wigs (?)

Hi wiggers, I need your expertise!Although my hair has grown back quite well since March 2013 (much thicker and curlier than it was before it fell out in Sept 2012) I still have the ophiasis pattern of big bald patches at the nape of my neck, and a small bald patch at my front hairline. While my hair is still above chin length this is not a problem as the hair falls to cover the patches. But I really, really miss having long hair -- I always used to have it long, and used to love putting it up…See More

Stupid fine print

I need to vent about my health insurer's policies on wig rebates. I am with Teacher's Health Fund Australia. It all looks great on the surface: 75% rebate on the cost of the wig, at up to $350 per year. BUT they don't make the fine print available, at least not online. The fine print, as I found out to my cost, is: -no rebates on wigs bought overseas -no rebates on wigs bought online from auction sites such as eBay -no rebates on second-hand wigs -the supplier must be registered with health…See More

How to look your best bald (general beauty tips for women)

Posted on June 5, 2013 at 7:37am 0 Comments

How to look your best bald (from my own experience):

1. Be of normal weight. Being bald just really does not suit the overweight very well. If you are overweight, try to exercise and eat healthily. If nothing else you will get more of a healthy glow and feel better, and therefore look better overall!

2. Try not to wear glasses if you are short-sighted. Glasses can look ok if they are well-chosen, but they make your eyes look smaller and that is not a great look for a bald…

Shows that you shouldn't watch if you have alopecia

Posted on May 28, 2013 at 8:09am 5 Comments

I am having a bit of a problem at the moment. Usually I'm ok with my alopecia, especially since the weather has cooled down and I can wear wigs again without feeling like I'm going to melt away.

But recently, like so many others, I've become addicted to Game of Thrones and The Borgias, two wonderful HBO shows that I think everyone should watch if they like quality drama (and especially if they like pretty costumes and great swordfights).

Everyone, that is, except alopecians. OH…

Shave for a cure debate

Posted on February 23, 2013 at 9:30pm 16 Comments

So yesterday I got into a heated debate on Facebook with my friend and her friends. She announced that she was going to do Shave For A Cure.

I advised her against it, and told her the stares and general nastiness from people all the time isn't worth it, and suggested she simply donate the money. It just makes me sad to think of a young woman in her 20s with a perfectly healthy head of long hair, looking the thickest and shiniest it will ever look in her life, and shaving it all off to…

Hi Holly,

My PhD is progressing a little slower than I would like. I'm about 3 yrs 4 months into it and would really like to be finished by the end of this year. How's your PhD going?
