A few things about me: I'm 27 years old, Indian, and a Born again christian woman who loves to sing and worship the Lord. I started losing hair when I was 12-13, and I started wearing my hair piece at age 25. I suffer from Androgenetic Alopecia(took a long time to diagnose) Not many people who I have gotten acquainted with recently know of my hair loss. I tell few people, and others think that my hair just started to grow back...Living with this has been hard, but I'm so glad that I found this group. Please pray for me:)

People never cease to amaze me. So this woman at church came up to me last Wednesday,and asked me if I was wearing a wig. I was shocked and I started stuttering, and then I finally told her "yes", with a smile. She then asked me "why, because Indian woman have beautiful hair"? and I noticed that I was about to tear up so just then I took my mind somewhere else as I answered " I have a form of Alopecia". I went to church today for choir rehearsal, and once again I left Hannah the wig at home, I wore a beautiful "I love Jesus" scarf instead. One of the members who has no idea about my Alopecia, was staring at my head. I nearly had a heart attack, because I thought he was able to notice my Alopecia, because my scarf was practically hugging my scalp, it was so tight. A few days ago, I confided in the members of my fellow worship team at church about my Alopecia, and they could not have been more supportive. What really touched my heart so deeply was how God managed to take care of the things that concerned me the most, people's reactions. The worship leader of the church instructed the members of the choir that if anyone in the church asks what is wrong with me, they should respond, "God is healing her", and that nothing else should be mentioned. It's so good to talk to other women going through what I'm going through and be real and honest about it. YOU are beautiful too! Inside and out. I can't believe that hairdresser... what a b! I am sure that the experience with you taught her a lot about compassion and to watch her mouth. I am blessed to have a mother who is a hair dresser so I have privacy and some comfort getting my hair cut, although it's still anxiety provoking. She is understanding and compassionate, but also sticks her foot in her mouth a lot. I've come to the conclusion that it's just "the way it is" for now. I keep faith that by educating the people around me, maybe it could open their minds. Blessings and hugs!
