About Me:
I am a high school senior that has been dealing with alopecia ever since I entered middle school. Generally it hasn't kept me from doing what I wanted (played soccer with only a bandanna), but still I haven't been able to do EVERYTHING that I have wanted. It has led to some worrisome school days, but for the most part I accept it. I have only ever shown my head to good family friends and family, but hopefully one day I won't care so much. So far I have tried many different types of wigs, but I still haven't found one that I really like. Anyways, I really love animals, especially horses (they are the bomb) and I have been riding ever since I was six years old. Right now I have my horse (romeo), 3 dogs (nouveau, luke, finnegan), and 2 cats (captain vancouver, and miss canada 2007). I also really love soccer even though my mum has made me stop playing (too many injuries for her liking lol), and I practically devour books. Out of everything though, animals are the ones that give me the most peace and help me to feel my best, because besides my alopecia I also suffer from other autoimmune disorders.
Do you have alopecia?
Alopecia totalis
Are you age 18 or older?
Yes - I am 18 or older

Thymuskin

Posted on January 4, 2010 at 2:35am 2 Comments

My mum is constantly looking for something that doesn't have any harmful side-effects that might be able to help get rid of my alopecia, and she recently came across thymuskin. Apparently it helps the thymus in someway (lost the piece of paper but will look for it lol) by providing nutrients and helping create antibodies that the body needs. It says it can take 9-12 months to work so I am going to try it for my mum because it can't hurt and it smells like vanilla! So I will post some pics on my… Continue

Bad day turned to bad couple weeks

Posted on August 6, 2009 at 1:30am 4 Comments

After having been bald for more than 6 years you would think that I would finally have accepted my hair loss but apparently I haven't (even though I thought I had). As some of you guys know I recently graduated high school and in a few weeks I will be starting college. All of these milestones have released a whole rush of bad feelings and thoughts towards my alopecia that I had thought were almost completely gone, which has really freaked me out. I guess it started on the day of my college… Continue

A Good Day at the Barn with only a bandana!

Posted on May 11, 2009 at 2:47pm 1 Comment

Its funny to me that I used to go to school only wearing a baseball cap and play soccer with only a bandana on and that I later felt completely uncomfortable wearing just those things. Maybe it was all those teenage hormones that made me feel like I had to wear a wig 24/7, but thankfully I just don't care anymore!

On Sunday I went to the barn where I keep my horse, and generally I use my "barn hair" that is generally the oldest wig that I own that I wouldn't use for school anymore,… Continue

Hi Dielle,

I recently read your post "Feeling defeated, frustrated and depressed", and since I'm so late with it, thought I'd post on your page instead of there. I hope your return to university has gone okay (if you're back now). Everyone seemed to offer great advice on that area of life - I hope some of it helped.

What resonated with me most is your resentment of your twin. I have also got an identical non-alopecian twin sister and think I can grasp some of what you have gone through with that. I lost all my hair at a really young age and have essentially never had hair. Thankfully, my sister has never had to go through alopecia ever.

As a child it was hard to understand why we were different, as a teenager there were many days where I resented her and how many guys liked her and not me etc. As an adult now though, whilst still resentful on days, I am more thankful that she has never had to go through what I went through, and that she was always there for me.

I don't know what what you're relationship with your sister is like, if she's supportive of you or not. I'm trying to hang around alopecia world more often recently as I'm going through a rough patch myself. However, if you want to talk over the twin thing, let me know. There's definitely another girl on here as well in a similar situation - so just know - you're not alone.

Take care,
Dominique

Hellooooooooo

What kind of studies are you doing at college and what do you want to be?

You know I did read a good book recently called: The Island by Victoria Hislop, a friend gave it to me for my birthday. Have you read any of the books by Alexander McCall Smith? He has written quite a few series, one based in Botswana, a couple in Scotland (where he is from) they are very funny and easy to read - I find them really relaxing!

Anyway thanks for writing me back.

Hi Dielle! Thanks for becoming my friend. You mentioned a cute winter had that you wear to the barn riding and can go under a helmet... do you have a link or picture? I AM still searching for the perfect solution :) Thanks! And I can totally relate to your love of animals. My saviours are dogs. I have only one right now (Storm), but I really miss my Maggie. I also have a Bengal cat named Mavrik who seems so much like a dog sometimes. They are the ones who love me unconditionally and really lift my spirits some days. My Mom and Dad have a quarter horse and a couple of ponies - I should really try to spend more time with them... (the horses)... :)

Hi dielle!! I really do like my follea wig. I see that you are in cumming. I grew up in Roswell and moved to Tucker a year ago with my husband. I actually purchesed my wig through a company in Alpharetta. What salon do you go to? I'm here if you have any questions! It is my first wig, it is pricey bit completely worth every penny!!! Let me know if I can be of assistance to you!!

I know what you mean, "idle hands" and all that, not to mention the issues of self-confidence, self-respect and the others "self" things inherent in how the way we look affects how we feel about ourselves. This condition is a monster for sure!

I lost my hair in '93 and STILL wake up some days thinking I have my hair, my beard, everything. Of course it's a very fleeting feeling (probably reminiscent of a dream I don't remember) but when it hits me that I'm bald, I get so depressed that it's scary.

I just fight through it as I'm sure you do. What would I give to have my old self back? Everything! I'd make a deal with the devil if I could, just to have to shave every other day again and go to the barber shop every other week!

Tomorrow (or the day after) things will be better and we'll be better able to deal with what we both seem to be feeling presently. Things DO get better, I know this for a fact. Hopefully, you can find solace in something I've said today.

Stay strong, Dielle.

Hi Dielle

I identify with lots of what you have said - I am a big animal lover... and devourer of books! I have 3 dogs (1 is mine, 2 are my parents) and a cat, and I used to have a horse (before I got sick).

Hope you are enjoying college life.

Hi, Dielle. Surprised, right? LOL I'm just checking in on a few of my friends whom I haven't seen or heard from for a while and you happen to be one of them.

No big deal, just coming by to see that you're alright and feeling comfortable amongst us, from the look of your page I can tell you're doing well.

Okay, you're good and that was my main concern. If you ever need to talk, or have someone tell you a joke, don't be afraid to click my icon. I'll get back to you asap and well work through whatever's going on with you. Be kind to yourself, Clayton

Hey Dielle, I'm just stopping by to say hello and in doing so, got a change to look through your photos. Not knowing who's who, I'll just say that you're surrounded by warm, good looking people and that's always a good thing.

Anyway, I've decided to hang around, so don't be a stranger! Maintain
and be well, peace.

good to hear from you - you may actually be surprised that the wigs are not as hot as you think. We have hot and humid summers here too, and although I cant be bothered sometimes, a lot of this summer I have worn my Freedom with no prob. the new one that I have has a newer breatherable silcone cap inside which is definately cooler. Hope it work for you too as I know what you mean about the explanation of what is alopecia. Good luck, Kath
